I have a large website and downloading the files takes an eternity. Oten times the FTP client will freeze after completing just 1/5 of the task. I have tried three clients and they all freeze before completing the task. Anyone find a program that doesnt freeze and works for very large sites? Thanks.

I like WS_FTP by Ipswitch. I wonder if freeze problem might not be problem associated with server?

With TOPS30 and Crazy Rob recommending FileZilla I would look into that one. I have used Ipswitch program for years and had no problem. Their light version used to be freed to students and educators but it appears that is no longer the case.

FileZilla - great effort from the OS community. Never have any issues with it.

I've been using FileZilla for about a year now.

Great program- no problems what so ever!

I used to use WS_FTP PRO but their newest versions suck- IMO.

FlashFXP has been the best for my needs. Very nice server to server transfers

I like my FTP clients the be very simplistic... so far the only one on Windows that I've liked was LeechFTP, but it's author stopped updating it years ago.

I have tried others such a FileZilla but they feel clunky like I'm not really in control of the process, or are too much like Windows Explorer.

But it is buggy as heck, and the company won't do a thing to help me unless I have the original sales reciept (yeah, I just keep these things for a few years!).
At first I blamed my host for the stoppage, but they told me not there side, same with my isp.
My isp told me to move to cuteftp, and I did last week and it is a better ftp client than coffeecup ever was.
But I still have hangups on large files.
It could be, according to my son, that when trying to upload files with hundreds of folders, etc...it could hang up because of that.
Anyways, cuteftp, if I don't try to upload a hundred files at once, works good for me.
It will handle uploading one file regardless of size (or at least up to 18mb).

I exclusively use FileZilla also. I have no issues with it and it is simple and quick. I have tried others, but for me they seemed to be a pain to use.

Try "CoreFTP". ITs very good with support for sFTP.
You can also try "SmartFTP". Its very fast, but sometimes loses connection for no reason. The best is flashfxp.

I use Leap FTP. It builds a que list, so if your connection drops, you can continue uploading/downloading where you left off.

    I suggest securefx http://www.vandyke.com/products/securefx/
because it doesn't use the standard ftp protocol (altho the choice is there if you want to use it) and rarely times out. It does cost tho - it's worth it.

I agree, their new version seems very flashy and complicated, but i am still using it.

Seems like its time to switch to Filezilla, and it is the clear winner here with lots of votes.
