It's a simple lark/spoof. CTABUK isn't promoting his own forum. He didn't even start that thread. He's not profiting in any way by posting it here.

If DP members want to get up in arms about spamming or self-promotion, we have a few members here who would be more appropriate targets.

 

I took back my calling it Spam very quickly as I was just in a bad mood when i wrote it. I wasn't trying to start anything.

I just don't get what he is talking about when he is saying he is trying to create backlinks for people here.

But thats my thick head.

Well, I admit I don't get the backlinks part either but I didn't have the time or patience to read the whole thread...

 

I don't think it would help...I read it and still don't understand the point. If it was just a joke then its pretty funny. It was just CTA's last post that confused me.

Ok, I will explain. we all have user names, by simply putting "ctabuk" into a Google toolbar, it will show you how many forums I am in, then try it on your own "myname" - Now if it shows 1,000's or hundreds it does not matter, the main thing is that it shows 'creator ID' - your user name is known to the SE's. In mine you will see 'Inside Housing' Check that forum out, it is tiny, but it has a large number of .gov BL's. So I tap into forums that have good Google feed, and good Yahoo feed, my site went up by 9,000 Yahoo BL's last week. My keywords in my priciple site include the phrase 'Mortgages' & 'ReMortgages' now those terms are not in my tags, they are in my page content.Now just for one second think about my UK competition for those keywords, it's in the 10's of thousands. By being in the forums and by doing that spoof yesterday, which by the way Minstrel it was me who wrote it, but in conjunction with jmiller, it creates searches on my site. Googlebots visit me on the hour, 24 hours a day, so now I have a rotating news feed direct from Google alerts and my visits are massive for a humble Mortgage Broker.
So forum posts not only feed your site BL's they create an identity, when I merge this forums feed from this thread, give it 24 hours and you will see a few things happening. You should with luck see your Directory links go up without doing further submissions. Mine go up by 100 per day and I have not submitted in months.Then you should start to see more site visits, and so on and so forth. I wish you luck, and if you think our spoof amusing, thank you, it is the first of many.
