Are social networks worth it?

I have a small blog about 30-50 page views per day. Right now I have a twitter, but according to Google Analytics I only have on referral from twitter (and I think that was me). I am thinking about creating a facebook page and google + page, but I'm not sure if it is really worth it. Do social networks help that much with SEO or are they mostly for direct traffic. Thanks for the help.

They won't help unless you get traffic directly from search engines. And once you get good amount of fan-base, you are gonna get regular traffic from social networks.

 

I think unless its a physical business it doesn't help much - But i think awareness is essential and partially updating Twitter.
I have had quite a few hits from Twitter on my page and it reflected on my Adsense also - It just depends on what your content is.

 

My site is pictcars.blogspot.com and my twitter is @PictCars, but I don't know how many of my followers a real followers. And not just people who followed me in a hope that I would follow them back.

 

You could create a fan page and post car pictures regularly.
As people like them or share them, their friends will see them, it'll slowly go viral.

But if you want quality traffic, then focus on search engine. Optimize it for google images.

 

Ok, thanks and I have noticed that most of my traffic is coming from google (I am assuming it is images, because I dont have much text). And I have never done and SEO.

Well that seems might be the problem. Your site must be balanced. It's okay if your site is a photography niche or what, which is really justifiable if you've posted more photos than text.

It would depend on your efforts. If you're in doubt while taking a risk of indulging social networks to gain traffic, you'll never get much. People are now in social media.

Facebook almost hits 1Billion members, imagine YouTube views, Twitter. Use your talent to catch the attention of the people. Do something different that others don't offer.

Example: Offer people something freebies. In return, they should add you first on Google+, or like your Fan Page or Tweet your message.

Something like that.

Also, your photos can be powerful. For example, you can use them on Pinterest. It's the 3rd most popular social media site today.

Lastly, do SEO. It's the backbone of your website.

Do you use twitter , Facebook, etc 1-2 times a week, and add a few variations. Most of us use social networks and so do most customers. You can create advanced filters in GA - there are scripts out there that check to see if they are logged in and posts to GA. This way you can see your visitor base.. and if they are logged in.

 

Can someone explain to me how you add a poll to an existing thread or do I have to start a new one. So far I have gone to the original post and bumped it, allowing me to edit it. When I"m editing it though I cant find anywhere to add a poll

 

Yes, social networks are really worthy. It helps increasing the visitors as well the PR of the website through back links.
