I used to go camping years ago. We had a simple tent with a ground cover and caught our dinner and breakfast in the river and cooked it over a campfire in an iron frying pan. Those were some good times

This one looks real good. I love camping and me & my friends have done it in the upper areas of our country many times. In fact we have another trip coming on 15th June :p

If you have never camped before why don't you rent one for a long weekend before you buy unless money is not an issues.

I guess we could do that, but money is not an issue :)

Well, that didn't come out right. I have been camping a lot when I was a kid, but my wife and my kids have not been camping. But I have a lot of very good memories from me camping with my parents, and that's why we are doing it.

And the reason why we are bying the camp-let is because we have heard from some of our friends that they are much more comfortable than tents. The beds are super, and you don't sleep "on the ground". And it takes 5 minutes for one person to set up (well, not sure if that's true).

it takes more than 5 minutes to set I up saw a lot dutch camp lets during the years and they needed around 10- 20 minutes :p

if a camptruck is to expensive in norway ( we went there with our camp truck in 2006) you should take the camp let I think bc it'S better than a tent. Are you planing to camp in norway or going to another country (if your planning to use a ferry take care your paying the right price (taking a ferry to norway was more expensive then take one to sweden and drive to norway lol )

dude, you're going to spend 10 000$ for a tent? For 10 000 $ you can buy a second-hand caravan and that's probably much more comfortable. And it's probably not even worth buying it. I mean, how often do you go camping anyway? For 10 000$ you can sleep in hotels or rent caravans for a loooooooooong time

    It's not just a tent :)

We are planning to go camping for the whole summer, maybe about 2 months a year or so.

And I guess that we could stay in a hotel for a long time, but the reason we are doing it, is because we want the experience with our kids.

I have ordered the camp-let, and we'll get it in about a week (we bought it brand new).

I haven't been to Norway but I heard that you good put up a tent on farmland as long as you notify the owner. Hiking and throwing a tent up on some mountain in the middle of nowhere is the best. But I don't think that you could get your wife to agree to that.

I like going camping during any season, but make sure only to take kids, especially younger kids, during the warmer months when it's not too cold at night. A playground and other outside activities for the kids so they don't get bored can be a good thing too.

I love hiking and sometimes on long hikes we camp out between walks.
I do think camping is fun for a family.
But you should probably plan some trips, like fishing or hiking.

I agree, it would be awesome to do that. But I will have to wait, my wife would never agree :)

We are picking up our camp-let tomorrow, and our first trip will be this weekend.

I went camping once, hated it. We were in a tent, mind and not some fancy smancy caravan like in the movie Meet the Fockers. Who wants to take communal showers and be eaten alive by mosquito's. I couldn't blow dry my hair or even have a bath.

I think i'd rather live it up in a 5* hotel. Don't put your children through it, they will grow up and resent you.

I would buy one of these put an awning on it and bunk beds and buy a cheap tent for the outside. In bad weather sleep inside.

I am most definately a camper, and have some experience with kids (I have 3 of them and in a couple weeks it'll be 4). The most important thing to remember when camping with kids imo is to keep them comfortable. Make sure to give them plenty of water, food and rest. Plan activities that are suitable for the age of the children. This could be skipping rocks in a lake, to canoeing, or fishing.

Kids LOVE camping, but it's way too much work for me, as far as the set-up/tear-down goes.

I much prefer to use camping as a 'base' for amazing hikes that are too remote to access in one day.
