Article Question

    Hello all,

Is it worth adding articles from article websites to my site? Surely this is just duplicate content and i wouldn't get much traffic?

Would google penilize me for having duplicate content and if so would the page the article is on just get penilized or would the overall site get penilized?

    Thanks

I 've asked this before and never really got a "comfortable" answer. I think it may hold some truth that if you add a lot of other content to the page it would not be seen as a duplicate page because it is not a duplicate page. I could be wrong on that though.

And when I say other content I mean all your other stuff like navigation, headers, images, etc.

I would not add articles from article sites on your site. They have probably been pimped out so much, there are 1000's of copies of them online.

I'd write unique stuff. I'd not worry if it was the same topic 2-3 times. If you are a jigsaw puzzle site, or something, you will naturally duplicate content as you write articles, but if each is different in some sense (different strategies, different whatever) its not an issue.

No one knows the actual answer other than Google themselves.
But, you can without dobut rank with an article taken from one of the article banks.
To test this simply pick an article and run a search for some unique phrase within that article and see how many results return.
Over the coming years, G will probably tighten up their 'dup' content filters the question for them is where do they draw the line. At what point does a duplicate article present nothing new to a user ?
You'll often find that searches for an article don't always give the top result to the original article. They give the result to the person/site that best markets that article. In that respect, using an article is no different from anything else we put on our sites. If you market it the most successfully then you will achieve the best ranking. If you've got the best ranking then you'll probably get the lion's share of the traffic from that search.

One thing you may also consider doing is to search for the title of the articles you are planning to use. See how many times it is already found. Some articles get used a lot more than others it seems to me.

Good question. If the article contains information the user is searching for, does it matter where the user reads it?

If you pillage a site like Go Articles for content, looking at the number of times an article has been downloaded might be a good idea.

The less popular it is, the lesser the chance its already on every relevant and semi-relevant web page.

Of course, it could also mean that the article just sucks.

Does not duplicate content apply to the html on said page? If so, it would be hard to be penalized since your page components and layout will be different from others.

Also, looking at "viewed" counters really says nothing. You can do what was suggested--search for said article to get a clue as to saturation.

I doubt you have to worry much about a particular article being on thousands of indexed websites. I don't think I have seen one like this yet :D

Aside from creating content, I use other people's content as well and have not noticed anything negative.

Will this change? I don't know. What I do know is that my visitors expect content.

I have also received traffic from visitors searching for articles by a particular author.
