At wits end fighting pornographic spam

Need help in figuring out how to fight spammer. I oversee small web site. Over weekend discovered same spammer had spammed our site and posted 13 links to obviously pornographic sites.

Who is records on domain names indicate sites all registered to same owner who is listed as living in Moscow. Person likes to set up user id as !!a_____!!.
By the time I saw forum membership list the sites were not live. Who is record showed name servers for the sites.

If I know name servers for for host, how do I go about finding and contacting hosting company. As yet no domain name servers are listed for new porn business endeavor.

I pulled forum offline. Childen viewers to this site is a legitimate possibility.

I already had a robots.txt file disallowing chat room, forum and guestbook.

Any ideas regarding how to handle this issue will be appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Shannon

With any public forum, you are going to have a problem - theres not an easy way to stop this.

You can block his IP from your forums (depending on whcih forums you are using) but then he could just re regsiter using an anonymous sevrice...

    Sorry!

If it makes you feel better I don't think you are the only forum owner working out how to fight this person/people. I know of some other forums that are trying to work it out as well.

Appears that they are choosing names with !! so they are at the beginning of the member lists and hence their links appear on the first page.

    Hi,

I haven't actively used it to check my links but I rate all my sites at
    http://www.icra.org

They do have a lable tester etc as download but as I said I haven't had to use it yet. But if I had to that would be the one I would go for.

But with a litle PHP or equivalent you should be able to check if they actually are rated child friendly/safe thus you could make linkage depending on it.

    Hope it helps

some forums allow you to filter badwords. if this works inside a url too then that could be powerful. Afterall, it doesn't have to be a 'word', you could put in a phrase.

I see you do work with bot detection. My tool, botspotter, has a hidden secret. If a mail harvestor comes it dumps a stack of fake emails, and a few others too which are live. You could do the same and add the email given by the spammer. Atleast then they'd get a taste of their own medicine.

If you're looking for dodgy IP addresses take a look at: http://bots.pcpropertymanager.com/modules.php?name=BS_IPCheats
