beautiful ad placement...but what kind of CTR?

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by fsmedia, Apr 6, 2006.

I ran across this from another blog I read and I thought it was worth sharing. The ad placement and combination is amazing with the relevant links, search, and news, with the ads right below it. I haven't personally tested it out, but I wonder what kind of CTR it gets. I have a new site I'm developing and I'm considering using this type of ad placement on it to see what kind of results I get. Has anyone else tried this out yet?

What is that 468 box underneath the first post? I've never seen anything like it. Is that a custom job by the webmaster (i.e. against TOS) or a new ad format being tested out?

I disagree. I feel that's more of tricking the users than it is actually helping them find something useful. With this ad integration, it's clear that they are ads, but it still leaves the opportunity for a user to select the ads over relevant searches and it drives traffic both ways for Google and the user.

I came across a site the other day that had 'ads by google' regular size and the website link in like a 40+ font size on the center of the page with the description smaller underneath. I am sure almost everyone that entered this site clicked on it. It definately didn't look like a adsense ad. Is this legal or are you allowed to change the font size of the ad?

Sorry, but what's the blue box search box title "Powered by Google" above the adlinks? Is it new? Is it like Adsense and can generate profit for your website?

I'm new to this, anyone can tell me about it? Thanks!

I am not sure how many webmasters would use related links by google. Its like driving traffic out of your site (to news, other web pages).

Maximum i ever got ctr was around 30% with all kind of tricks (including less content).
The website in question has good ad placement and blending and could get ctr around (5%-10% imo). :)

It's clear that they are ads to you. To most users, who don't realize the difference between sponsored and organic results in Google, a layout like that works wonders.
