Before I Go Insane Writing a Decent Website...

    Hi,

I'm new to this (have made my first four websites this year) and need advice from experienced pros.

I have a domain name for a country which has two names - one was the accepted name (name1) until a military coup took over and then re-named the country (name2) - and it's not even a .com, but it is a decent tld (.org, .net, .it, .de, .eu, .info).

    The domain name goes name1name2.tld.

It's been parked at Sedo for about 6 months and, I can't believe it, but it actually gets traffic (about 75 visitors a month) and revenue (almost a dollar a month) with a consistent click-through over 10%.

I got the domain for free through a registrar's special. I will be able to renew it with its own revenues.

Now, I'm thinking, "Hell, if it makes ten bucks a year with a single page parked at Sedo, then what would it make if it were five pages of optimized text about this tiny part of the world with no outbound links other than Adsense?"

I would make more per-click with AS than through Sedo, right? Sedo is like an AS aggregator, as I understand it, so .06 per click should be more like .10 or .12 per click.

And the domain is already indexed by Google (even though it's parked, I know).

It would take me about 20 hours to re-write the Wikipedia entry, optimize the text and turn one Wiki page into four pages for my little MFA.

If I were to spend this kind of time, I would want to increase my monthly take by at least 10x (1000%) within three months (in other words, I would want to make $7.00-$10.00 per month instead of $.075-$1.00 per month).

I don't think this is unreasonable, since there is already traffic, and there is only one page, while multiple pages could be optimized for each of the two names for this tiny country. Traffic, I feel, could increase tenfold.

Unfortunately, I don't know where my Sedo traffic is coming from, though I can't believe people would type it in due to the TLD (like I said, not a .com).

I realize that this is kind of like being a slum-lord, trying to turn a low earner into a low-medium earner (with intentions of flipping, admittedly), but I am, indeed a slumlord. And that doesn't make my time any less valuable.

I know there are no guarantees, and there is no telling how good (or bad) my SEO would be with the finished website, but has anyone here converted a parked domain to a mini-site with success?

    What kind of success?

Ever turned a domain's revenues over ten-fold by making a four-to-five page MFA (not talking about affiliate sites here, since I don't think they apply to the domain)?

    Are my expectations unrealistic?

    Tell me your story.

    Thanks,
    Pat

I have another site that uses AdSense and that site has a very high average pay-per-click.

Will my average pay per click decrease FOR THAT SITE if I dilute it with this site (average click wil be about a tenth of what I get on the other site)? Will using different channels help?

    Thanks.

First of all, know your visitors, that's the best way to develop your website!

Get a counter that you check get the statistics of from what website did you get that visit, if its a search engine, you will know what they are looking for ;)

Then develeop content, not only 1, 2, 3... pages! Make alot of content, content is the king and everyone knows it, even pay for writers because it's a investment, your website is there, you will still get visitors, someday you will get your investment back :)

And work hard and do your best, don't do a website just for adsense, it won't take you anywhere, if you want a sucessful website, make a WEBSITE, not a MFA or whatever.

Youtube, Google, MSN, Yahoo... i never saw a sucessful MFA...
