Do you guys find that being able to develop websites yourself can actually be a negative thing?

for those who can't code, they just hire someone and spend their time developing content and marketing.

I find that I am more exciting about adding features etc. and when my project is finally complete I don't have the same level excitment to get content / marketing going.....

    thoughts?

I'm pretty jealous of those who know how to code their own sites, becaue they are skilled in programming. I've been trying to teach myself Python, but I have been so busy I haven't had time to work on it. I'm thinking about taking a Java class at college, but I'm not sure if I will.

actually being able to code to an advance. hmm ... not just advance, but i think it's much more than that. :D

I cant code as well. Just know some html but i think creativity and marketing technique are important too.

BTW, why being able to code is a double edge sword? I couldnt find any drawbacks of being able to code :D

    Interesting thoughts 404 :)

I don't think that ability to code yourself should be a negative thing, if at all it is a positive thing. However, important thing is to mix it with marketing so that you can get the maximum out of your efforts.

I can understand what you are saying. if you find this happening, try association/partnership with someone who can be good at marketing and who has the enthusiasm to take your project to further level where you both may be able to benefit from it.

The drawback is that if you like to code you spend more time than you should working on the code and neglect content and marketing. You can ALWAYS find some piece of code that "needs" a little polish :)

In my case I can bang out page after page of content, but keep thinking I need to learn photoshop so I can do the graphics to go with it. Unfortunately, knowing how to use photoshop is NOT the same as being graphically talented.

you have to make a right balance. You just can't spend all your time in making a site. You also need to work on other aspects of it.

sometimes you will focus so much on the coding and design, that you totally ignore that fact that you have to come up with good content
