Best CMS for group/community site/blog?

I've tried to use wordpress as a group site/blog.. but its lacking a few things..

The site would be used for updates (blog style), have an area to upload photos/gallery section, and also forum integrated into it..

The blog would have "Latest 5 topics" and "Latest photos" ..

I wanted to do this for my family blog as well.. Any ideas? I don't think Wordpress would cut it, and phpNuke has way tooo many modules to configure..

 

I think Wordpress With Some Plugins Could Be greate Option for you,and Also Joomla With Some Modules is a good Choice ^^

Joomla with Community Builder springs to mind. Or perhaps some kind of Myspace clone?

2) vBulletin forum + vBlog + Gallery

 

I suppose joomla would do it but you really would want to config wordpress to do it. You could have joomla set up and doing it in a few hours, much like WP.

i'm quite impressed with expression engine, but since its paid, i think i'll upgrade only when i'm comfortable using these type of cms. Only had experience with wp and a bit of phpnuke..

 

go for joomla .it has everything you need and great support too with huge joomla community.

 

Go with SMF and install TinyPortal for it. Its an extension for SMF and makes it pretty powerful.

 

I'm playing with Joomla right now and it looks awesome. The feature set is a bit overwhelming though... so you might want to spend a few days playing with it first.

Isn't there a Wordpress plugin for Joomla?

go for drupal. you can build a wordpress like blog with all the features in drupal. personaly i would not use joomla anymore after i learner the basics in drupal.
i know cms and all the different opinions about it can be very confusing.

it's not helping you to choose the right cms, but it monitoring how the community around the cms developes.

 

Drupal is pretty much focused on community websites. In fact, using it as a CMS for a non community website can be challenging .

 

Joomla may be easier

i disagree that it is centered around communities. i agree that it is challenging, but it's always challenging to learn how to use the more capable tools.
actually, drupal is more like a content management framework than a system.
that's why it's much more powerful than joomla.

 

Consider this - just about everything you want is already built into vbulletin. Just about everything you want is already built into VBulletin. Just bridge it with wordpress, install a couple of modification and you will have everything you want - a website, forum, gallery, blog (which is an ad-on for VB), social groups......... and the list goes on and on.

You asked about the most recent post on the webpage - you can use vbulletins "external data provider" to display the most recent X number of post on any external page that supports JavaScript. And one last thing - vbulletin security is a lot better then joomla.

So for community CMS you'd recommend vbulletin and a CMS in general the subdreamer?

 

Have you had a look at http://siteframe.org/ ? It sounds like it does a lot of what you want, I haven't tried it myself though but I keep meaning to give it a go.

 

You could go with vbulletin and wordpress. Check out the bridge I posted, it lets you share members between vb and wordpress - everything you need in 2 packages.

Vbulletin 3.7 made some big changes and added social networking in a good way.
