    Hey I use SMF for my forum and I`m satisfied. Good system with many mods and templates. Also it have easy admin panel :)

    You could go with Joomla! CMS (GPL licensed, under the umbrella of OpenSourceMatters) and use the Kunena component to set up your forum.

    you can find many free themes for it.

    I too vote for MyBB. SMF does not have a decent like / notifications system. You can also try Vanilla or Discourse.
