    Hi

    Im a complete amateur and trying to learn web design. Hoping to study it in college but trying to get experience now.

    A friend who owns a Salon is allowing me to design a website for her Salon.

    Pretty much straightforward 5 HTML pages but also what i need is a CMS that she can login to and update a pricelist regularly. Maybe add a weekly offer etc.

    is there software to suit this or would i have to use a special Wordpress theme etc..?

    Take a look at hairwellington.co.nz which uses wordpress. The promotions page uses custom post types so that a non-programmer can add new specials and remove old ones without the risk of disrupting other promotions. Alternatively you could write a simple plugin which will store the specials and in the admin section allow them to be updated.
