You must make sure that your blog is indexed on the main SEO such as google, yahoo, etc. You should also submit your blog to the main Blog Directories. Another thing you should do is to make sure that it's easy for readers to bookmark your blog on social bookmarking sites. Joining a number of relevant communities or discussion groups for your market area will also be helpful.

 

Blog promotion is hugely influenced by Social Media Marketing this days. Adding Community, current happenings Updates, Visitor list widgets, Followers badge etc makes the differences.

The next point i would like to mention is regarding On page optimization.

 

I think SEO,SMO and SEM are the best options available to promote the blogs.

 

But the questions is which one you should focus? What technique should you use for different types of website?

There are many ways to promote a blog and drive traffic & subscribers.

One of the main methods I would suggest is social networking on sites like facebook & myspace but more specifically with a social network in the niche of your blog.

You should also get into link building, forums, directories, press release sites, search engines, as well as social bookmarking on sites like Digg.

I would suggest posting videos to video share sites like youtube with links to your blog.

Run a contest for new subscribers.

Email marketing through a weekly newsletter.

Classified ads sites like craigslist, oodle, etc.

Ideas are endless - its more a matter of how much time and resources do you have to devote to the promoting of your blog in my opinion.

The easiest way is to put a tweetmeme button in your blog. Whenever you publish a blog post, someone will tweet for you. That is how I got traffic from twitter even though I dont have Twitter account.
Make comments actively at popular blogs, especially those blogs with many followers and many commentors. You can use Name/URL function. Those readers can click on your name to visit your blog.

Totally agree! Start your SEO campaign and don't give up until it drives you mad!

 

Do your SEO campaign, but focus it on social media and forums.

 

I've tried Twitter as well and didn't get much out of it. I'm thinking of revisiting though and giving it another shot.

 

Guest posting is a good way. Tweeting about really valuable blog posts you've written helps because people will retweet it. Article marketing is good too.
