Better revenue - charging fee or advertising

    Hi,

I am pretty new to web publishing, but I have created a site - http://www.allyearfootball.com and surprisingly enough, I would like for it to break even, or even turn a profit :)

The question I have is, do any of you have experience or opinions on charging a fee for a site (this is a fantasy football site that uses computer simulated games so it can be played all year long), versus advertising revenue? My hope was to make the site completely free, but I am running at about 11,000 pageviews / month and making maybe $.05/day. I dont know if it is because I dont have great volume (but it is continually growing), and that by waiting it out for a while the advertising money will catch up, or if I should not expect the advertising money to really ever catch up with the cost of running the site ($50/month).

    Thanks for any input.

11000 page views is really nice (compared 2 me 4 example)
I believe that you should really take your time and improve your site layout.
Better ads blend, better layout, etc. can make you a lot of money, maybe more than trying to get money from participants.

IMHO they participate because site is free.

With that traffic you can easily pay the 50 bucks per month. ;)
