If you are a subscriber of qwest for getting access to the internet you better be beware of virusses/trojans/worms that can send out spam from your computer if you are infected.

As most of us know there is a lot of malware out there that when infected with this your computer can send out spam emails.

Qwest gives a fine of $5 to each individual subscriber for each spam email send from their ip

Ouch, that can give you some serious trouble when your computer sends out a couple a thousand of spam emails

Wow - $5 can add up! Think of all the wordpress users who have not upgraded or fixed the xmlrpc.php bug.

I was a qwest subscriber for a while. They do have a good service compared to a lot of other providers I have used. $5 for a single email is insane. We had a computer get infected about 2 years back at my office and we found out when it crashed our mail server. At $5 / email it would have costs about $2,000,000.

I cant see how doing something like that is legal. Spam means different things to different people and this just seems crazy. Unless qwest is providing anti-spam software, I wouldn't think they could charge something like this.
