Has anyone tried blending keywords into the background color? Can the Bot read it even though it can't see the words? :D

It's called "hidden text." Try it and the search engines will penalize you to the nth degree.

*shocked* Please explain in more detail. Does it make a difference if you have only 2 or 3 words hidden?

the bot doesnt have eyes :D, it just reads the html code itself, im not sure if the bot is smart enought to read what color the text is and compare it to the background color, because if it can you might get into trouble,..also hiding keywords is frowned upon and some searchengines bann for that humans also look at sites for that that work for a SE company :\

Do you really want to risk it? Google can ban your site completely from its index on a whim, and you'll need to beg them to get back in using a series of re-inclusion requests, and even if they let you back in, they'll probably set you back a year in the rankings. Yahoo and MSN is a little bit more forgiving when it comes to the amount of hidden text you can have on your site (their "accidental" hidden text mercy rule), but the Google Gods do not understand the meaning of the word "mercy".

Thanks. I didn't think the bots could see what color the text was. For that matter, humans can't even see the text unless they are looking at the html and who has time to do that? :D

well if the bots can tel if a background colour and text colour within it is...
    eg

    background colour = heffes
text in it has colour = heffes (the same)

then as it scans them both, it will see they both hav heffes as the colour and you could get penilized

Well, a really simple way that works most of the time is looking at the site, and then pressing Ctrl+A to select all the text and objects on the page, suddenly making your hidden text, not so hidden.

And plus if I were Google, I would pay a few "Quality Assurance" people to go around checking sites in the index. And those people prolly have computer engineering degrees and would get bored doing it by hand. So they would get together to make a tool to do it for them. And wa-la suddenly the engine is _that smart_.

Google's algo has been able to detect hidden text since 2003 (that I know of, probably earlier). In the last 3 years, they've probably improved that algo by leaps and bounds. It's a fool who continues to think they are smarter than a building full of nerds with Masters Degrees in computer science.

Even if it sort of, kind of matches the content but can't be used in the actual content due to continuation issues?

well being a web designer, once i find a site, i always look at the code to see whats goin on behind it so its easy for me. BUT given the fact that not everyone is a web designer, and there is nothing wrong with that, there are still ways. e.g. empty space, getting results from a search engine that dont even have to do with what i searched for, divs/tables wrapping wrong.

try what you want, just like your name says [NewToAllThis], take our advice and dont try it, it will save you more hassle than its worth

    Dear NewToAllThis,

You Sir are an idiot! You asked the question and several have supplied answers and CORRECT answers at that! Go ahead and blend in to your hearts content. I look forward to the thread you post in the near future asking "why my site is being penalised?".

    Boo Hoo to you!
