Burning Chest

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by pkchukiss, Apr 13, 2006.

Hi guys, so far I haven't started any threads myself, so this may come as a surprise, but I suddenly have this burning sensation in my chest. It is extremely uncomfortable, and feels like I have been climbing a mountain -- not exactly unbearable, but enough to bug me about this.

Right now it is 1am Singapore time, so I can't get a doctor unless it is a dire emergency; and I don't know if this justifies it?

Can you guys give me some advice? Thanks.

I was thinking about sleeping the night over, and then see a doctor tomorrow. What do you guys think?

Describe the sensation. What sort of burning?

    Anything else?

    (I'm not a doctor)

Actually, think about it ... if you really don't feel well and consider yourself in need of medical attention, perhaps you should just go get it?

Can you tell us a bit about yourself if you can

    What age, weight, height...etc...

Have you done anything energetic in the last few days?

I agree with jabb. It sounds like heart burn. If you have access to some antacid tablets take them and see if it calms down. Somestimes a small piece of bread and some milk can help.

I used to get heart burn a lot. The main culprits were not spicy, but greasy foods. Heavier oils like lards are shortenings were a bigger problem than lighter vegetable oils. Cheap chocolate also gives me heart burn -- again because of the cheap oils they add.

If you are getting over weight, losing some weight and cutting out the fatty foods may help over the long run. You do not want to be getting heart burn consistently because it will cause other, more serious problems.

I woke up this morning, and felt a whole lot better. I didn't take any medicine, but I just laid there on my bed until I fell asleep. I really hope it isn't something serious, and thanks a lot for your concern!

My height is 176cm (5.7 feet), weight is 72 kg (158.7 pounds), and what I've done these days are my usual 4km run every 2 days, plus my weekly swimming sessions. I usually do 32 laps within an hour, but because my friend was a faster swimmer, I did the same amount in 45 minutes instead.

Come to think of it, I had cramps while swimming that day... Will it have any effect on this?

So cheap oil does cause problems? What do I need to look out for to avoid this?

Could be some form of Esophagitis.

Buy some Mylanta and if it lasts more than a few days go see a doctor.

I had this happen to me a in 2002 and ended up spending ten days in the hospital and losing 35 lbs. :

I'd say time for a check up with your Doctor just to be sure...

Waiting could be a terrible mistake no matter what it is...

I actually feel normal now, so should I still be worried?

Come to think of it, when I laid on my bed just now, I couldn't really sleep on my back, and had to curl up to my left side to fall asleep.

I wouldn't worry....but if it doesn't get better in a day or two or if you have trouble eating then go to the doctor for sure.

    You should probably go anyway.

Interesting... How did you do that while typing that reply??...

Go to the Doctor and you will have about a weeks less stress from worrying about wether you should have or not...
