Great stuff GTech, but there are a lot of things we can do like the things that Europe is doing, they require or will require in the future, that all packaging be made of materials that when burned give off little or no toxic smoke! Vinyl (PVC) is a nasty material to dispose of and most of your clamshell packages are made out of this poison!

We are now developing clean diesel fuel and renewable energy like wind and solar, so there is a better way!

We must also cut our consumption of electric so there is no need to build the disastrous nuclear power plants!

I am quite surprised at how little money the US is putting into researching alternate forms of energy.

Not only would this help global warming, it would stop funding any dam terrorists!
I mean come on, if there is one way to stop terrorism its to stop giving them money for oil!

I always cringe when people try to hold up Europe or the EU as a standard to live up to. For instance take Ireland. They have no comprehensive recycling programs except they pick up cardboard once a month and put a few bins in major cities where you can drop off glass bottles (If you can find the bins and feel like polluting the environment in your quest to get there)

Growing up in NY we recycled everything because we had a weekly pickup and the material actual got recycled (rather then throughout Europe where there are no facilities so it goes in the landfill anyway)

All the Kyoto Treaty did (which Ireland stupidly signed) was create a tax which they must pay (40 million a year which is a lot for a population of around 4 million) for not meeting the riduculous standards.

Im all for developing alternate energy but doing it through legislation has been a disaster.

Well the theory is that if you keep oil high, then people will have an incentive to invest in R & D to produce bio-fuels, they claim they are going to make fuel from corn down the road or coal

Sounds like a good idea for a portal then yfs1, maybe you should put one up to put heat on the government so you can force change!

Just like the US its not in the Governments best interest to allow alternative fuels. Its not a Bush issue, its a politician issue.

Most of the technology is already there but no group of politicians has enough balls to actually allow it.

I don't believe in Global Warming (well I do but I believe its a natural trend, not a man made one) but I believe in the cost savings and removal of dependancy. Unfortunately if I am saving money, someone else isn't making it.

Theories are a dime a dozen. That was the point of my post above. It's plants, no, it's pollution, some say it's mythical, some say Bush is so smart that he can single-handedly change the course of a planet that some scientists say happened naturally 55 million years ago.

Fuel is already made from corn. Just 45 miles from my home, they are doing bio diesel research to create fuel from cow patties (manure). I sure wish they'd hurry up too, because once or twice a week when the wind blows just right, that smell comes through our city. They say it's the smell of money. Huge cattle in Hereford, Texas.

Oh but it is in our best interest to develop bio-fuels, the United States of America has the largest reserve of coal in the world and is the largest producer of corn in the world

The fact is that our leaders have been bought by the oil companies and they are cashing in on imported oil, thus the war in Iraq = Blair and Bush

Except the US and the UK aren't the only countries holding up this change. You actually remind me of Rush Limbaugh where everything is the Democrats fault (and is why I could never listen to him)

You truly believe if Bush or Blair weren't in power that we would all be driving hydrogen powered cars to our solar powered houses

I don't think anyone is arguing that it's not a good idea to develop alternative fuels. And we are pursing those.

It's comments like that where you lose much of your credibility on any issue. They sound exciting, if you don't have a clue, but when you think about it and ask yourself "hey self (or, hey moe!), where's that Iraqi oil?" and realize we ain't getting it, it's just fodder. If that were the case, then why did oil prices go up during the hurricane in NO, then later come back down? If such were true, wouldn't it be in the best interests of all those naughty politicians to keep those prices up? And what does OPEC think about it? After all, they play just a little part in setting oil prices

yfs1 Rush Limpbrain is a pill popping loud mouth propagandist, he is as big of a fool as Pat Robertson and his partner false prophet Jerry Falwell

You need to learn the relationships of Blair and Bush with the oil companies to understand that it is their fault (the record oil prices, the war in Iraq, GM & Ford going broke) and they are failures (London Bombings) with this "so called war on terror" that is nothing but a fight for control of oil and power!

There is no discussing anything with you...Everything is Bush and Blairs fault (although you do blame Nixon once in a while)

Apparantly, the idea of Global Warming has only been around for 6 years or so

There is always a big deal made over political contributions and how they prove collusion when the media (who shape most peoples ideas) never choose to reveal that that same corporation gave as much to the other party.

When will you accept that corruption and influence is bi-partisan?

How can it be his fault...He wrote a book about it and rants once in a while

I do agree in a broader term that a lot of these bleeding heart enviro-hippies do more damage sometimes in the name of "good". There have been many attempts to stop Native Americans, for example, from hunting native species to protect those species.

Then their numbers (the animals, not the Native Americans) get completely out of control killing off multiple other species and creating more harm then good.

Forest fires is another huge example

Man, please! You know that's not true! The only thing I've knocked Gore for, is his hypocrisy for whining about Bush going after terrorists when he and unca Bill use the very same authorities, with domestic spying. Double standards!
