Business creating web sites

My friend and I plan to start some kind of web site creating business where others can order custom site that we should make.

Also, it doesn't have to be only that way, we can do freelance work also, on freelance sites and fix others sites or add components etc.

He will do gfx (photoshop, css ) and I will do PHP and dynamic content.

My question is, will this work? Is there enough customers where we can offer this kind of service?

I mean if we have knowledge, and we don't have marketing skills or other business skills, is this possible to happen?

If anyone have experience with this, I would greatly appreciate it

This will work. I bet you already answered your question. If you want your site to be visible in any Search Engine and to drive more traffic and potential clients towards your website, I suggest you need to market it.

you need to offer some value for your customers, website design is quite a competitive field to get into.

 

The answer is yes and no because I have seen that most of the owners web design companies are marketing and sales people or good managers. Aggressive marketing and finance management is required to start your own business. If you have knowledge about web designing or development that is a good thing but marketing expertise will be required for getting new customers as well as for expansion.

I said yes because if you are very good designers or developers then you will be more able in customer retention. Starting is crucial and you have to have few customers to go good in the business.
