    I think it's possible but it's very difficult. It's easy to start liking that person, so if you do decide to be friends I would say in most cases to try and keep it that way. The most important thing is communication. Let them know early if you're interested or not interested in dating. This is less important if you think maybe you'd eventually date this person - and more important for if you just want a good friend.
