Can I remove unwanted links to my site?

    Hi,

I run an educational web site (www.waypointcorvallis.com) and recently I have noticed on my stats page that there are pornography sites that link to me.

I am wondering if I am stuck with those links, or if I can somehow have them removed. It may be an issue that comes with growth, however, it is a poor marriage that I would like to get out of. I don't want to visit these sites to contact them (I doubt that they would remove them anyway).

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott

These links wont hurt you in anyway. Personally I would just leave it be.

But if you would want to get them to remove them then you pretty much have to go to the site the get the contact info.

Hi Scott, welcome to DP. I used to live in West Linn so I know right where you're from.

Those porn sites aren't actually linking to you, are they? If you go to the page specified, there will not be any link. What you're seeing is called "referrer spam" -- it is nothing to be concerned about any more than getting spam in your inbox.

Some stupid webmasters hope that your referrer logs are posted publically-- that way, they get a free link back. Even if not, they hope you might click on the link to see what page is linking to you-- they just got a free unique visitor if you do that. Anyway, they're not linking to you, just creating that illusion with a referrer trick. Personally, I get sick of seeing the crap in my logs so I block them at the IP level.

Thanks for the reply, what your saying makes sense.

I couldn't figure out why those sites would link me; however, I am glad to know that they didn't. I still don't like being a pawn in their stupid games.

    Warmest regards,

    Scott

yea.. I have seen this as well. Pretty stupid technique but people use it. Maybe if you were selling something a webmaster could use, but not porn.

Let me ask you this: what would be the reason they are linking to you and where and how do they do so?
