Can niche classifieds websites make much money?

    I've just bought a domain for a niche classifieds website. I intend to build it up to both make a little bit of money and drive visitors to my other websites.

    Which method generates most revenue in classifieds, charging for extras (bolding, featured listings, etc) or advertising through things like adsense?

    its possible if you promote it properly
    seo should be done and target right keywords,
    best would be making money with per sale or ppc ads.
    not sure if bold listing or featured ads would pay u tht much unless ur site is properly established

    Other classifieds in this niche (looking at the trends of my target, then generally tend to visit them all when advertising or looking for something) are getting 15-40k uniques a month. I don't really see why I can't match/beat that with work.

    What do you mean per sale? I think I'd rather offer free classifieds with paid upgrades. I should be able to make money from visitors with adsense blending and advertisers with upgrades.

    I intend to use the same script as the first website (I like its features and seemingly easy customization) but I'll customize it so its more or less unrecognisable (they have done little/no customization).
