Can Social Bookmarking Widgets Slow Down Your Site?

Discussion in 'Social Networks' started by Webgold, May 26, 2010.

Now that Google takes into account how fast your website loads as part of its rankings, I was wondering if you think the popular bookmarking widgets (share this, add to any etc) may be slowing down your site?

Does anyone have any views on this?

They don't really slow your site down unless you got the code in wrong.

I think every widget slows a tiny little bit the loading of the site. But using a share widget brings more to the website than what that slowing takes.

The ones that are coded right only loads a very small piece of javascript that should be loading a lot faster than a small image. After that, the actual widget is loaded inside of an iframe element that is not affecting the loading speed of the rest of the page. Also keep in mind that the SE crawlers are not loading these widgets, so you shouldn't worry about your site getting crawled slower. The pages will be loading a little slower only for the users with slow internet connection.

Yeah you should embed the right code for your website because these widgets directly linked from resource social booking sites but some of them facilitate widget installation files in only that case it can cause you some problems

Well the process of loading your site depends on two factors, 1) Connection between user and server and 2) page code. As long as everything on the page is good, error free, there should be no problems and a fast responds. And that goes as well as your connection between the user and the server.
