Can you help me to decide a strategy for social networks promotion?

    Hey, everyone! ;)

Lately, I've been using Twitter, Facebook and Digg as social networks for promotion of my blog. I add everyone who adds me; however, I don't really look at the most of the profiles I am following. In fact, I believe that people who are following me also don't look at my profile. :(

That's why, I would like to ask you a question: should I choose only a small group of bloggers who belong to the same niche as mine and try to become partners with them(exchange traffic, write comments etc.)?

The reason why I can't do the same with the followers I already have is a lack of a free time. I can dedicate only two-three hours per week for looking and commenting on their content.

On the other hand, right now I have ~60 (the number is constantly growing) followers and if I choose a small group, it will be consisted maximum out of 10.

So, what do you advice?

I think that you should stop focusing on who you follow and just skip straight to the discussion part. People in social networks, Twitter especially, like feeling special when you reply to their tweets that they address to you.

I tried doing so by using the "Reply" button under each tweet. However, it sent my comment as a private message directly to the submitter. Most of them sent me back message like: "What are you writing about?"....

P.S. Thanks for the answer! :)

Spending time in the trenches and genuinely interacting is the only way to go imo.

In my opinion, try to interact with the people that you are following. Gain their trust, and post quality and interesting content. They will see your post and chances are that they will look further about the content of your post. Facebook and twitter is a social networking sites so why don't you socialite and use it for your site.

First part of any social media strategy is to find out where the "talk" is happening.
