Can't Figure it Out!

    Hello all,

I can't figure out where google is getting the keywords for my frontpage adsense ads. They keep displaying ads about pre-employment screening, background checks, and anxiety or stress related ads. Can anyone spot it? These ads have nothing to do with my site!

I guess you are talking about 'geekgods'? The main page of blogs are often hard to target for google: too many subjects. You are using words like 'arrested', 'shield', 'president' and so forth on there. Jensense recently advised to just not have ads on the main page at all, because it makes little money and looks better without ads.

Yes, GeekGods. I will have to think about not having ads on the frontpage, good idea. As for the ads that are there right now, I will say that I removed every story from the front page and the background checks ads would still show up. So I think it's something not in the stories, but somewhere else!

If you remove everything, google doesn't have anything to go on anymore, so it will just use the information it already has on that page. Also: it takes time for google to learn the content of your site. It may be that at some point it will just know the site is about X-boxes and will mainly show those. But given the content of the x-box games that you discuss, that might take a while - and on the main page, with it's constant change, google will have a hard time figuring it out.

Since months ago Adsense is displayed irrelevant advertising in lots of sites.

A few weeks ago I posted about a site displaying which name include the word "hot" in the domain name, but devoted to top SEO resources

However all the adsense advertising was displaying girls in bikini, nude chicks and things like that, when supposedly Adsense does not allow adult content, and the site in fact had nothing to do with that.

While I see the point of not having ads on the front page it doesn't work for my site because that is the first place direct advertisers want their ads.
