Car Insurance in the UK

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Weirfire, Feb 14, 2006.

Since moving to Northern Ireland I've found my usual insurance provider has doubled in price from £300($600) to £600($1200) a year. After doing some brief shopping around I've found Endsleigh to be the cheapest at £550.

Who do you guys use and what sort of price do you get charged.

I have a 6 years no claims bonus and am 23 years old. £550 is a bit steep if you ask me. The car is probably worth about £3K now.

Ouch, I am around £400 for my beemer 7 series.
I also got a Shogun Sport this year with dualfuel LPG and its around £400 as well and its a 3.0 Petrol V6, what engine do you have? DirectLine seem to work best for me this time but I have also used Bell Direct.

I've had a little look at some Northern Ireland website and they seem to be going for Quinn Direct but I cant get into their website. Endsleigh is the cheapest 1 so far. I actually got a quote from 1 website for £237 at my old address.

I've used Adrian Flux for quite a few years, they're pretty good for modified & performance cars and classics too :) My Legacy (Subaru 4x4 turbo, 200bhp) costs about £600 to insure (3PF&T) and the V8 Manta (200bhp) is about £300 (3PF&T) on a limited mileage policy (but doesn't qualify for an NCB) But saying all that I did find a £300 quote (fully comp) for my next renewal at swiftcover :)

I dunno why NI is still so expensive with it being a bit more peaceful now, are there only joyriders left? They only nick Rovers now, or so I hear ;) :p

That's a fair whack of cash for a 1.4 ltr!
Must be your youth Stephen I guess that pushes it up higher, also maybe get your misses to ask for a quote with you as a named driver if she has a few years no claims, usually works out cheaper for me putting it through that way.

LMAO Oi, cheeky brat, you'd best check outside - the car might have gone whilst you were busy playing on DP  but don't worry, I'm sure they won't get far, fast... If you set about a brisk pace you should be able to catch a Rover ;)

lol well, theres a security camera outside so that will stop them!

Waiting on my email from Adrian Flux.

I'm beginning to think it would be cheaper setting up my own car insurance company and only insuring my own car.

Can't you get an old decommisioned ex-army watchtower too? ;)
Give swiftcover.com a lookin too, like I say Swiftcover did halve my Flux quote but I couldn't beat Flux on the Manta - no "regular" Insurance Co would touch a well modified car!

The reason the premiums are higher is because of the increased risk but also because a lot of the major underwriters eg Norwich Union don't operate over there so the competition is less.

Quinn Direct has offered me the cheapest rates for my mega beast of the road - Nissan Micra 1999 series (1.2 litre) at £525, at the age of 19 and not actually sat my test yet, I think that seems pretty fair and will be given a 2.5% reduction if I make no claims within the first 12 months. Woohoo, that'll be enough to buy a pint in Scotland, almost:eek:

I don't drive but when I was looking for car insurance for my dad I found that if you use moneysupermarket.com you can compare loads of them in one go instead of having to mess around looking at each one individually.

You can also search auto insurance in Google for your specific region.
