Hello all. I am really wanting to fill the unescapable feeling of "need" to contribute to the internet in a positive way.

So, I was thinking today. I like cars. People like cars. Cars are cool.

So here we go, another car site. This site will take a while to release because I intend it to become a "base".

    Forums...
    - forums for every availabe make and model
i havn't exactly decided how I want to do this yet. Becasue I want to have under each car a sub-forum about tuning, care, use, buying etc etc that can be unique to each make. (Yes, this forum is going to be absolutely Gigantic)

    - Gallery with rating system, comments, user uploaded (all hosted on this site), and again a make / model category hierachy for every make / model possibility.
The gallery will be a combination of personal galleries and the main galleries.

    - Possibility of User Blogs and / or a WIKI setup. What better people to write about the way a car works, or the way to tune a car, or the way to care for a car then the car owners themselves, am I not correct?? :)

    - classified ads ? maybe pull ads off of auto trader or something... work on some type of agreement so this site is more of a middle man to keep people more safe.

    - car events: races, shows, etc

    - website / resource directory

Well, the ideas and things to do are basically endless.

    What do you guys think?

Remember, I am not trying to start a "niche" car market for a specific car, but rather a base for all cars.

    Thoughts / Comments / Suggestions?

it will be a huge undertaking, mainly because there are so many different cars out there, and to have tuning/maintenance/car etc for each make let alone each model is going to be absolultely endless in work amounts. to pull this off you would need a big investment of both time and money, and would need to market it extremely well, even get forum posts up before people start signing up. otherwise it seems you know what you want to do, and its just a matter of time before it works the way you want it. i guess you could build the site the way you want it, then start with a small amount of cars in the forums and such, then just add models and makes as you go. i wish you good luck in this project if you decide to take it on.

Unless you have a huge marketing budget, I would advise against it. Niche is the way to go. You have lots of like minded individuals wanting to discuss a specific topic. When you spread yourself too thin, developing a real community becomes very difficult, IMO. I would imagine attracting banner advertisers for a general forum would be very difficult as well, as the traffic isn't as targetted.

I think you will need a lot of money to advertise the car forum/website in order to get alot of traffic, since there are so many of them.
Maybe you could start doing some good SEO work...?

    Anyway..good luck!

Car guys tend to be tribal. Tribes generally form around makes/models, e.g. Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, etc.

Please don't take it the wrong way, but the list of features for your notional site are all "been there, done that"....in other words lots of sites already do those same things.
