Charge back of $350...

I just had a chargeback on my paypal from a site I sold 2 months ago of $350.

Current Total in US Dollars: -$313.07 USD

I don't know what to do and I'm really worried about what's going to happen.

Does anyone know what I can do to get my money back?

xadet3, that sucks. I've been in a similar situation before. There isn't much you can do about it really, paypal isn't likely to appeal the chargeback. What's more, if you don't bring your paypal account back to $0 or positive balance, they will send you threatening emails after 45 days.

You are wrong, selling websites offers the worst possible protection. They arent "physical items" are they? Its hard for paypal to investigate aswell, purely because of the way that the internet is setup, its impossible to verify the owner of a website at any time.

You need to get your paypal funds back to at least $0 soon or your paypal account will suffer. First they send emails, then letters, then they will simply offload the amount to a private debt collector and close your paypal account. You cant escape from the money you owe them, I was in the same situation a few years ago - you just have to take the hit and get over it.

You can initiate a chargeback on anything but typically if it's not a physical item the chargeback will not go through.

Here is what I recommend: escelate the complaint to a claim if it already has not been done so then leave a comment that you sold digital goods ie: website and any proof of the transfer you have.

Once an item is escalated to a claim the other person has 10 days to respond else the claim goes through (If he escelated to a claim leave a response A.S.A.P.) This action will also lead the the quickest possible resolution which you should win.

I had 1 chargeback after making over a 1,000 transactions, it is real tough to deal with these situations as we needed to keep processing transactions we too, took the hit, and carried on with our business

Over 300 dollars is a lot of money, but if you are in a similar position to the one we were in then, you must keep your account open

It sucks, feel for your loss

Paypal only give you the option of disputing reverse charges through paypal itself (and even that must be done within 30 days). You have zero protection if the person decides to chargeback with their credit card, it goes directly back to your account and it can be done up to 60 days after the sale. The only upside, if it can be called that, is that the person who charges back through their credit card company will have their account frozen. Its such a poor system but there arent any reasonable alternatives for the scale it offers.

I just rang them up and they are filing a dispute.

I'll try and give them as much evidence as possible.

They will hand you over to their collection agency, and you will keep recieving mails and calls from the collection agency to pay the amount to paypal or they will sue you. Just ignore, them and close the paypal account.

Yeah if your account isn't limited already, I suggest closing it NOW.

When I used to do freelance web design work, I only used PayPal one time to collect funds - only because my client was over 30 days delinquent with payment, and I threatened to disable the web site until payment was received. The only method the customer could pay at the moment was via PayPal (credit card). Fortunately, everything went very smoothly with the transaction.

May I suggest, that when doing business, you create an invoice and send it via PDF / fax / otherwise; and ONLY accept a check as payment? You may want to even accept only a company/corporate check or cashier's check as payment, and then do not deliver your work to them until the check has cleared your bank.

This is really the safest way, which always worked for me, without fail. No money, no web site.

Sorry to hear of your experience, but hopefully you have taken a lesson from it; and get your money back.

    Good luck!

It's hard for me to accept cheques though.

If I need the money fast it is rather hard for me to receive it fast. I live in the UK and a cheque from USA can take 3 weeks to deliver and then another 4 weeks to clear as it is international.

With paypal I can receive money and send money fast.

Have you considered setting up a Merchant Account and Payment Gateway? I believe if you must accept credit cards, you may find this a safer way to accept them. Chargebacks are still an issue with any credit card transaction, but maybe an actual Merchant Account and Payment Gateway offer better protection, than a third party company, like PayPal.

Just told the cunt to fuck right off, he was getting no cash, and not to contact me again.

I checked out the website you are selling. $450 is a bit too much for a website that only gets less than 100 unique.
Anyway, this time, I hope you won't use paypal to settle the trade.

    Yes with around $200 revenue.

    200x10 + 120(Value of included) - $2120.

That's the price it is worth.
