Christmas business - will it work?

Time is going fast and Christmas is coming. This year I will try to turn one of my family business to an online business.

The main idea is that I will start an online store selling beautiful Christmas trees imported from another country. The main advantages I think I have are :

- there is no company/website selling Christmas trees in my country
- I have the exact domain name I wanted (the equivalent of "christmastrees.com" in english)
- I think I will be very easy to become 1'st in Google SERPS because there isn't any website optimized for Christmas trees
- the Christmas trees I will sell are very unique and pretty expensive in my country but I get them real cheap from a friend that is in another country

What I would like to ask you:

Do you think it will work??
What do you think I should do in order to promote the website for Christmas ? (I have a small budget). I am hopping that the website will be spotted by the media because it will be the first of these kind… that should get me visitators/buyers.
The problem Is I don't have any idea how many users will search for Christmas trees online in my country(I am from Romania, a country with 22 million persons and 5 millions with internet access.) so I can't really expect to much from search engines.
What advices would you give me in terms of marketing?

You are a tad too close to christmas to start thinking about google traffic on a brand new site. It wouldn't hurt for future years, obviously. But this year? Google traffic? Highly unlikley. There are really only 5 or 6 weeks in the internet buying time for christmas.

 

I am ready to place a bet with you that in 4 weeks I will be in top 3 maybe 1'st for my main keyword: "brazi de craciun" = "christmass trees".

It's google.ro but thing's aren't very different from google.com

 

What does "887 pentru" mean? is that 887,000? or just 887?

 

It means only 887 ("pentru"= "in order to")

 

Nah; thats easy then. I can't bet that you'd be top 3 out of 887. Amazed that so few sites compete for the term though.

 

If you have a small budget, give AdWords a try. If nothing else it will at least give you some data as to how many people are searching for what you are selling.

 

I couldn't belive it also when I first checked the kewords.There are very few websites for this term and they are mainly websites with different topics. Lucky me Thank you for your advices anyway

 

Looks like there is minimal competition for that keyword so you may have a slight shot with google. Very slim...if you can get indexed...you may just get there. I would try to focus on more traditional methods of advertising if you can afford it. Or advertise online with banner ads, in relevant email newsletters, buy an email list, and do some PPC.

 

Still, I don't know haw much traffic I can receive If I reach top 3

 

I dunno either. Given that only 880 sites even have the phrase on the site, I don't think it'd be too much though. Perhaps, even in Romania (right?), people search for christmas trees. I'm not sure.

 

I'll keep you posted with my progess in Google starting next week. This will be interesting...

 

Evryone buys a christmass tree here, but till now they don't buy online...hope this will change

 

I was thinking of buying a email list of all garden shops in the country (for reselling), and maybe CPC traffic from a network in my country (something like adsense but only 0.004 $/click)

 

Considering the short time you have, don't waist your energy on Google or SEO. Go for a quick PPC buy and see how it goes.

 

Already number 3 in Google, 3 days afther i registered the domain The website will be ready soon. Things are looking good.
