Clothing

    Hi,

I'm starting to look into starting an ecommerce site to sell brand name clothing online. However, I am having trouble finding a good wholesaler that sells authentic goods at a reasonable price. Also, someone had once mentioned to me to look for overstock clothing but I am having a hard time finding that too. So, I was wondering if anyone would be able to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks.

The chances of you finding an authentic wholesaler is close to none. Big companies are going to be giving their stuff to small businesses. And if they do your probably going to have to spend thousands of dollars first.

Your best bet is to find overstock clothing. As to where, I can't help you there.

I've already rammed my head into this brick wall before. You pretty much have to go into a deeper niche of clothing than just "brand named stuff". I have what I call a "toilet paper roll theory" which I have never heard anyone disagree with. I think it applies here possibly.

Why do you not see toilet paper sell well online? The basic reason is that it is more accessible from the Dollar Store down the road. Unfortunately with clothing, people would rather try it on, touch it, see it up close, and there is really little incentive to get it online. Generally, these clothing stores that they buy from are huge retailers with pricing you can't compete with, even with a low overhead of being online. You'll have to find a niche less competitive, but with enough people interested in the products you are offering to buy from.

In my personal view, I wouldn't try to sell anything online that you can get at Wal-Mart (for the most part).

Exactly, or you are a wholesaler or it wil be very very difficult to find good stuff at a good price.
There always will be someone who will sell your same clothes for less.

The way we done it and the best way to do it is go to the trade shows, if you go to the shows you will get some good contacts and also keep up with the lastest trends/fashions.

Trade shows are easy to find, just search for clothing trade shows and your area in google, also buy trade show mags and normal clothing mags, they should list some traders and shows, you will have at least two shows to goto each year, autumn/winter & spring/summer.

you need to work on narrowing it down a lot more. Just "brand name" stuff won't be niche enough.
since you're a new beginner, you may not be able to fight with mass stuff. you should start with niche ones.

You definitely need a niche. Go to blacksocks.com and read their story. They found a creative way to sell black socks online and they turned it into great success.
