CMS and SEO = Headache !! :)

Hi guys first post for me here :D

Seems to have some SEO specialists here and I really have a headache trying to find a GOOD CMS.

What I'm asking is not too much I think, but may be someone can give me more info:

1 Unique customized page titles everywhere (and unique meta tags too, not one for the whole site which is totally ridiculous).
This is more or less controling the head tag

2 Customized files and directory names

3 XHTML compliant ! As much CSS as possible!

4 User friendly, does not require a PHD in Geek-ology to simply create a simple navigation

5 Lets me have my H tags where I decide to

6 Lets me decide of my anchor text even if I want to name it differently form my content page title or page URL

I tried Mambo but I find it heavy, sometimes difficult to modify as far as design and does not comply with point 1, 3 and 5

I'm actually trying Drupal and I am very unimpressed, some features look interesting but I still can't figure out how to have all points above working together + not very non-coder friendly at all...

I tried Typo3 but this one requires a PHD :)

I tried Plone but my hosting don't want it.

I tried Civicspace but it would not work without a bug.

    PLEASE HELP ME :)

it's just that it seems to meet these particluar needs best!

Try SMBCMS.com - this one was developed by a team of SEO literate developers including myself - the urls are 100% friednly, management is easy and you can adjust your code as much as you like. Theres a special area for meta elements and other seo imprtant particles

My site (aitoc.com) ranks #1 google.com for web development services and #2 for web development company as well as in top10 for website development and many many more fruity kwds using this CMS

There's a whole bunch of other well-SEO'ed sites (like #1 for new york roses for instance) that use smbcms.

You can download it for free trial if i am not mistaken

anyways PM me of mail at if you have any questions

Drupal requires special module for meta tags.
CMS Made Simple - might be too simple, though

Smbcms provides a lot more functionality than Drupal - the new module that we developed provides for dreamweaver and flash templates

I never could find this module, do you have a link by any chance ?

For SMBCMS, I found it quite good, need to test it though but it looks like what I need since my current project does not require specific workflow control and extensive framework. Still it looks like a bit over my budget for now...I know it's not that expensive considering the rest of the market but I'm on a tight budget.

Have you tried Joomla? or Mambo as it was called earlier?
I use it on my sites and the SEO is good.

Wordpress or Moveable Type might be a decent answer for you.

I think that wordpress and movabletype are great pieces of software for blogging but in my case they are too limited (or just my programming skills are too llimited to modify them...)

When it comes to mambo...well nice marketing around this CMS, but for SEO it is far from being on top of my list, SEO is not URL's only and the design is not flexible at all.
On top of it when you go to serious customization the core developers would sell you additional modules...nice "open source" spirit (I'm thinking of 2 modules in particular)
In addition I need a nice e-mailer and when I see those I can integrate in mambo I'm worried...too many bugs I can not fix. Otherwise I like the load of addons though, that's great.

There I go....headache again lol .... I promise I can't find this stuff without having to pay too much for my budget :):D

I do not get what you are hinting at. Which modules are they trying to "sell"? Can you please enlighten me?

I don't want this post to become a bad mouthing stuff because I think that Mambo is great, just that it's not good neither for SEO nor user management.

I was especially talking about the SEF module and was referring to this particular discussion: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,427.0.html

I agree with the guy saying that a core developer should not sell an upgrade to the module he is in charge of...

That's cool, thanks! Only the meta description left to find now.

I saw that a trick is possible on the database with the current version, dunno why they did not make it a core module. For now it takes part of the page content which is not the best even though at least it reflect the real content of the page.

    guys? No other choice

It's funny in a way because there are so many CMS and (thanks to them so much) all these programmers competing for the best CMS, still nothing (open source at least and sometimes commercial) to comply with simple request that make sense not only for SEO....but for the simple visitor or for w3c compliance.

Really, nobody knows of another CMS?

    http://drupal.org/project/Modules

"node words " module enables adding keywords with content. Title and description should already happen for you. If you get right to the point in first line of content the automatic description works ok. Enable clean URLS in "settings". Use path alias when adding content. Other pages urls can be changed in "URL Alias"

    What too slow??? :D

I like Drupal, it looks like clean code and nice community but lacks of modules clearly.
In addition drupal does not look easy to customize for the design part.

As for the meta description I would like to customize it, taking the first sentence of my content is ok but it might not be what I want here and there, why forcing me to go so straitgh to the point ? I think that Drupal should let the user describe their content the way they choose to...

Pretty much does all the things you requested I think.

I just tried it but didn't find a way to control head tags, I tried on opensourcecms, I will try with a local copy to see if I can make it :)
    Thanks for the info.
