Hi Im looking for a CMS script and would be grateful if any1 could answer the following:

Are CMS scripts search engine friendly? Will all the content be crawled by Google for example

Which CMS is best for sites always updating with new information, but also requires each article to be indexed for future reference

Which CMS comes with customizable or a range templates.

Not all CMS are SEO friendly.
For example, DRUPAL is known to be SEO friendly.
For other CMS, you have to use some components or modules to achieve SEO.

Go check out this site: http://www.opensourcecms.com/

It provides a comprehensive listing of open source cms's. There's a bunch of ratings and reviews for each one as well.

Thanks for the info Suri, so I guess its between Joomla & Drupal (which were the 2 I was thinking of anyway)

Suri: You seem to have good knowledge of CMS, which would you recommend?

steveb: Thanks for the link, but I'd rather hear first hand from other DP members using CMS scripts.

I chose Drupal because of it's SEO friendliness, and it's paid off pretty-well. i dont think it's as "pretty" as Joomla, but there are several templates out there to choose from.. it's also pretty easy to use once you get it figured out.

I am still learning. I only have reasonable knowledge on CMS. :)
But with whatever I came across till now, I recommend DRUPAL.
(I installed Joomla & Drupal and seen their capabilities)

DRUPAL is absolute dream for SEO and it's capabilities are amazing. Only problem is that not many good templates available for DRUPAL (unlike JOOMLA). But I will NOT consider it as a major drawback. As the software evolves, more templates will come into picture.

JOOMLA is easier to install and many useful add-ons are available. But if you want basic functionality (without many add-ons) and an expandable CMS (keeping the future in mind), I suggest to install DRUPAL and spend time in exploring. It may take some time, but it's worth.

    Hi Panjabi

Check out http://drupal.org/project/Themes for a library of contributed themes and also look at the drupal showcase forum http://drupal.org/forum/25.
