Complex Adsens Dilema

Discussion in 'Placement / Reviews / Examples' started by superpump, Aug 29, 2006.

My site is two pronged approached, dealing with dog health, as well as human health information.

I am finding that my adds are not as relevant as they should be. For example, an article on prostate cancer is showing to have dog adds instead of cancer adds.

When a health article loads to my page, the rest of my homepage content also loads, with the majority of it being dog related. Would it help the adsens bot serve better health related articles to my site if I set up my pages to show only health stuff minus all the home page dog related items everytime a health article loads? Hope that is easy to understand.
    Thanks.

I assume, reloading does not help? I have found with dynamic pages that once google comes and indexes it, it usually does show the relevant ad in line with the dynamic content.

Perhaps you should have created two seperate sites.

two different sites is not an option. I am one of a handful of sites online that does this meaning I receive a lot of good traffic due to the uniqueness of the idea.

Is there any sort of manual code I can ad to each post to help with this?

Check your website with a text browser - there are seo tools out there to emulate this (see how a spider sees your website). Are there more dog related keywords there? Perhaps that can be changed to help get the more relevant ads.

    yeah that's the thing:

the majority of my block menu is dog related, that was why i was asking if i took it out for health related stuff if it would help.

Then I'd say yes to the removal of that block menu. Can you not change the block menu depending on what content is being displayed?

there are multiple approaches to your dilemma to create ordered chaos rather than dilemma :)

    1.
a strict separation of all the navigation stuff from the pure content
this COULD be 100% successfully done by using SMART frames - just know how to !
I use frames just for such reason and many others since 1997 very successfully.

    2.
another method would be to use Googles "section targeting" - that is a special set of Google tags to switch OFF or ON the crawling FOR Adsense purpose of relevancy
you may read the original in detail
    introduction

    full details at
    https://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/answer.py?answer=23168
you will have to wait until Google mediabot has recrawled all your pages to get full advantage of the section targetting. that may take a few weeks depending on how often mediabot is visiting all pages

    3.
i also would recommend that you name your picture files accordingly
on a human helath page i see
    ... dog-healh.jpg

I have thousands of pictures on my site and I know that for CERTAIN purposes of ranking or giving weight G does use file names of pics!!

if this would be my site - i would apply ALL 3 above methods.

me too i have only one site and many topics beside my main topic and I have managed to get quiet accurate relevant ads for all pages individually.

another SEO factor of benefit woudl be to create a folder structure instead of
    06052006/08

    something like
    health/animals_dogs/
    health/human_.../

the foldernames of a file DOES matter to some degree specially for adsense - but for all else as well.

    good luck
