You have hit it right on the head: the only way the virus will be stopped is when enough of the herd is exposed to the virus and builds an immunity. Mitigation efforts like masks, social distancing, etc., only prolong the inevitable, ostensibly to not overwhelm hospitals, but the number of infections/deaths will be what they will be whether they are reached at three months or six months or two years. Just like with other flu's, which is all that this is...a flu. That can change if an effective vaccine is developed (big "if" by the way, given the mixed success rates of the various annual influenza vaccines, imo) but that is not likely to be a factor in 2020.

@misssmiles is regurgitating the fake news party line that the average person can help to prevent the spread of the virus. Laughable. They may be able to delay it a bit, but that is all. Unless we plan to stay in isolation for years, the virus will do its thing. In fact, masks on non-trained personnel (medical people get intensive, continuous training on how to use PPE because it is that hard to do) actually make those people more likely to catch the virus. Even one of the worst fake news outlets, CNN, admits this:

    https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/02/health/surgeon-general-coronavirus-masks-risk-trnd/index.html

What wearing masks does do (and this is why the leftwing, power-crazed politicians are pushing it) is, much like Halloween, unnecessary masks are intended to scare the population every time they go outside. It is a constant psychological reminder that we are "in crisis" and that allows politicians to issue crazy edicts, have the police/military track people's personal lives, etc. In fact, this is exactly the type of control that leftists here have craved for decades. As Saul Alinsky always said, "Never let a crisis go to waste," as you are trying to enslave the population via socialism/communism.

In light of the obvious need for this discussion, I am seriously considering a BOGO offer on my tinfoil hats as they are clearly really, really needed right now and I want to do my part to help humanity.

I feel sorry for the vaping industry. Remember how earlier this year some people died from a mysterious lung disease and they immediately said that vaping was the cause? Did they ever test those patients for coronavirus? I am guessing vaping can create an environment in which a virus can live much longer (in the mouth, throat, lungs), but did those people die because they vaped? It's a shame if the entire industry was decimated because of a wrong diagnosis. Any thoughts?

I do not know much about the vaping industry and the deaths and whether they were targeting kids with flavors, etc. But I do know that the Left hates all businesses and are quick to jump on any industry that they sense a weakness in. Think how they always attack Big Pharma (just because they are typically profitable) almost always because of their profiting off the sick, etc. Except that now, we are happy that these companies have the deep pockets to ramp up test kit production and urgent research on therapies and vaccines for the current crisis. According to the Left, that seems to be okay now, because shut up.

File this one under The Law of Unintended Consequences for "Experts": Boston is a "hotspot" for the virus now. Are the hospitals overwhelmed? I was reading an article in a Boston newspaper this morning and there was an article that was quoting ER doctors and administrators. Their beds are less than 50% occupied, despite them normally having an 80% occupancy rate. Their explanation? There has been so much hysteria and panic caused by the fake news and their co-conspirators in public health/politics, that people who are very sick are staying away from ER's for fear of catching the virus. They see stroke patients coming in too late for effective treatment, kids with abdomen pain waiting too long and coming in with ruptured appendixes, and more. Great job "experts!"

Hopefully, the stroke victims and appendicitis sufferers were wearing their masks, of course.

From what we know up to this point is that the coronavirus spreads very fast. it is not a flu. It i s a very special kind of infection that takes down those with a weak immune system. Some pople have been saying that it came from bats but I think that it is just strange. All you have to do is social distance and you will be ok.

BUT... they were not wearing their tinfoil hats which would explain why they were impacted health wise. Thanks to VP Pence and the Tinfoil Hat Task Force(T.H.T.F.) hospitals in the greater Boston area now have enough hats. As soon as the patients are wheeled in a tinfoil hat is promptly placed on the grateful patients heads.

And I will tell you: the continued posts on this thread that demonstrate the complete ignorance and misinformation that gullible consumers of the Fake News continue to spout give me great confidence on our continued sales results for the foreseeable future. Who needs alien abductions and demonic mind control, when we have this?

Sinovac Biotech a China based company has developed a vaccine for Covid-19 that is 100% effective in monkeys. (that would encompass about 25% of our membership);) The hope and expectation is that it ought to work in humans as we share much of the same DNA. Human trials began on April 19.

I heard that there is another company in India expecting to start trials on a vaccine in 2-3 weeks and are ramping up production capabilities so that vaccines will begin to be available in September.

Is it just me, or has anyone noticed that, here in the U.S., the people who are insisting that the shutdown continue indefinitely are all folks who have not missed a single paycheck during the pandemic: the Fake News media, politicians, government workers, academics, etc.

You have tens of thousands of workers in almost every country in the world pumping out your tinfoil hats. Not even one of them has missed work as none of them have gotten sick. Prove positive that your tinfoil hats do what they claim they do!

So, as I recall, we shut down the economy to flatten the curve and thereby prevent our healthcare providers from being overwhelmed by the Coronavirus. The result of this brilliant plan: hospitals across the U.S. are hurting and laying off personnel because their beds are empty! The esteemed Mayo Clinic is right now furloughing or cutting the pay of 30,000 of its workers. In anticipation of hysterical hospitalization and mortality estimates, all elective surgery was cancelled (the profitable part of the hospital business, BTW) to keep beds open and people with strokes, heart attacks, etc., who should be going to the hospital, are too scared by the hysteria over coronavirus to leave their homes until it is too late.

Yet, we continue to base our government policy on the modelers, epidemiologists, and statisticians who have gotten it wrong from the beginning and throughout this pandemic.

The University of Oxford has been developing vaccines for different Corona viruses such as Sars and Ebola, along with various other strains for 20 years or so. They have simply made adjustments for the Covid-19 strain. They have formally announced that they will have a vaccine by September. They in conjunction with big pharma companies in Britain claim that they can have hundreds of millions of vaccine vials for Europe in short order.

The end of this is very near......hang in there!

Florida is starting to get back to business. Despite the criticism DeSantis keeps moving forward. He's also a huge Trump supporter, so you can imagine all the negativity his approach has gotten, even though the stats are showing there's a huge decline in new cases. What's interesting Orlando has just a handful of cases, Miami, on the other hand, has 10K+ because it's a favorite destination of most NY / global flights. So, the South will be first to open. Then the West coast. And the East coast... well, who knows.
