Dad Story for Father's Day weekend

So, an executive with a major telecom company and I had a video conference call scheduled this morning. We both signed on early to get the webcam, microphone, etc., adjusted and could see each other on video and chat while we waited for the meeting time to start our serious discussions.

He was a gentleman that I had briefly met once before and we wanted to speak about some business opportunities. He is about my age and I guessed that he had kids. While we were chatting about the weather, etc., I happened to get an email about Father's Day and I exclaimed out loud, "Oh shit, it's Father's Day this weekend!" He immediately replied, "Oh no, Father's Day!"

That is the typical "stomach in a knot" reaction of Dad's to any mention of a holiday or birthday or anniversary because 9 times out of ten, we are the party that forgets the event and have to scramble to cover up that fact. However, this time, after our initial outbursts of anguish, we both realized that it was not our problem on this particular day and all we had to do was sit back and let others worry if they wanted to. We both laughed over the fact that we had the exact same initial reaction and subsequent sense of relief and satisfaction that there was no problem, after all.

I am still smiling over this story, hours later. That feeling of relief/satisfaction I mention above may, in fact, be one of the better Father's Day gifts I get this year.
