Dating websites..

my friend and i are looking to starting up a dating website. Rather than having a general dating website we thought there may be potential to exploit the gay scene in birmingham the city we live in. May sound funny because i know it sounds funny to me but we have a great domain name for the website which is quite catchy. We would be targeting gay's in birmingham and around the city. I'm just curious if theres any others that have only tried reaching a target group just within their city, how they've gone about this.

It's in early stages as of yet, as were both busy with college work but we think it has big potential. What do you guy's think??

Dude, Niche marketing mostly works and is taking over the seen speedily and there is no harm in going for it,
But rather being enclosed in Birmingham, I suggest you start a site for international people!
Since people of the gay community are generally shy and would refrain from coming up openly in a site enclosed for their city!
The International thing will automatically get you many linkers and you can have a good site!

Now planning to keep aside 1k$ for promotions and advt.
May be the results will come later when it gets fame.
So i think you can also foun on it.
Try to get it on tops for your local city keyword.

 

Possibly, but there are tons of gay bars so they could be used as an advantage. And amitpatel, are you advertising this on or offline?

 

I never advertised offline.
All things i have done is online.
First of all i will need some members around 500 members who are paid ones, i mean to say who just join to make quick money.
Once you do this your site gets populated.
After this you can start doing advertising in classifieds websites , partner dating websites and PPC programs like adwords , overture.
