I need a dedicated server and I'm seeking advice for which company to deal with. Any ideas or suggestions?

I would go for SoftLayer, I'm getting 100% uptime with a $200/month server on them.

I know a guy who can offer a server from $40 a month, though naturally...you get what you pay for.

I would avoid 'The Planet' I know two people who had a server on them and with there 'uptime monitoring' there were down for over a week! Look for a small company, there more interested in keeping you happy usually.

What do you need a server for? If it's for a proxy, your available choices will be numbered.

I've heard good things about layeredtech.com.

I personally have a server from fdcservers.net that was sold to me by a reseller. After using it for two months, the few problems I have had have been handled promptly and effectively (by the reseller though).

It really depends on what you need it for. What are you looking for dedicated server wise?

You should first figure out what do you need. There are hosts that charge $60 for 1000GB of bandwidth and some offering 200GB for $1000/month with the same HW Specs. Windows or Linux? Managed? Unmanaged? ...

    "I want a car".
Do you need a Dodge Neon or Maybach? Diesel or Gas? ... Ask the questions :)

checkout managemybox.com (I've just signed up with them a week a go) so far, pretty good and cheap, just 109$ per month with 1500Gb per month transfer.

By the way, alarik, how much is for rackspace? I've heard good thing about them too.
