Desperate measures

I know there are quite a few rags to riches stories here on dp. So, I was wondering..

If you woke up this morning with no websites and no 'SEO friends or contacts'
(you have basic web design skills, a couple of hundred dollars + the bills are already due, so you cant wait too long)

What would you do online to get from nowhere to being able to running a sucessful business online ?

 

Good question DA.

I think this really depends on the type of person who wants to run the business. I personally would choose a topic which I find very interesting e.g. Football and would design a site around it somehow. I would need to work out which areas would be possible to make money from and then I'd start planning around it.

I don't want to give too much away because this project is actually under developement lol.

It's key to choose something you love doing though as you won't mind so much spending tonnes and tonnes of time on it.

 

I would want some fast cash to pay the bills so:

1) sign up with AdSense
2) get a server with unlimited bandwidth + domain name
3) make a topical fun game in flash, throw it up, check it sticks to the "rules to make a successful viral website"
4) read this: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=17104 and then put the G ads on the site around the game.
5) post it on sites like collegehumour.com or boredatwork.com etc..

6) while that is making the bigger $$ work on some other slower burning sites and do the same.


(just read "you have basic web design skills" can this include flash? )

 

You could always teach yourself flash. There's plenty of easy to use tutorials.

 

Exactly A topical and funny flash game can EASILY get over 1,000,000 hits in a month. So that would be a nice start to your adSense career

No, you cant, its quite unlikely you would make a GOOD, FUN flash game with that level of skill
