I started mine for fun about a year and a half ago. It started out with about 20 pages and has grown to about 300 something. Hopefully it will keep growing and I will start getting more visitors now that I'm finally trying to advertise my site.

I added adsense in March I guess, but I haven't started making money untill about a week ago. Every now and then I would get a click, but this week is the first time I have consistently gotten clicks every day. I've made $5 this week =)

Started my first site for fun, then started making money after a couple years. Now I do a mixture of both. You have to enjoy what you are doing.

I started to make Gazotto.com for fun. I love technology and love seeing what new stuff can do.

I put adsense cause heck it's free money, but it's not a huge earner.

If it was about the money I would have shut down or sold Gazotto ages ago.

But I like what I do so I keep doing it.

My site started off free for fun. Then my internet connection became so saturated I couldn't even visit the site on the local network. At that point I went to membership based. That made some money and freed up the internet connection. Now it's adsense based and making pretty decent money at a 300% return on investment.

The next step is offering paid services.

    Mixture of the two

I was going to put a lot of time in it and therefore I thought it would be a good idea to take something that I like :)

You need an option to share info. My info sites have no revenue potential.

Well, some of my sites I started for fun...because I knew I could make money.

A little of both reasons, really. Depends on the site too. Some were for fun to mess around and learn, others were because I saw big dollar signs in my eyes. I should get my eyes checked, I'm probably legally blind.

My first website was started to share info and for fun as well...I do make a little with adsense on it...but...anyhow, my other sites were started for money to pay off my hosting and to buy scripts etc for my main site...and then...to experiment with and see if I can make money online :)
