To me, social networking sites are sites whose predominant focus is allowing users to communicate and connect with each other, sites such as Facebook or MySpace. Social media sites are sites that allow users to post, publish or share links/stories/photos/websites (ie. media) with other people, so sites like Reddit, YouTube, or Flickr. Social bookmarking sites are more so sites that allow users to store and organize the media they find on the web, such as Delicious, Faves, or Magnolia. A lot of people consider social media and bookmarking sites to be the same thing, however, I think that when there is a focus on voting and having things go 'popular', the site is no longer just a bookmarking site.
