    This is not only Digg.
Any active network would ban if you will try to spam them. :)

And they might think you are doing it or trying to do it or will try to do it.

The problem is, most of the banned people weren't spamming.

The thread that started the Domino effect was a bunch of muppets trying to form a digg ring (and all posted "I want in" publicly)

Most of us would never join anything like that but it seems because we are a part of the same forum, we also got ther hammer (and anyone else that was loosely affiliated with us)

People on the forum have been a bit close to the edge for a while. Even the DP forums url has been banned in digg for months. How can they think that the biggest webmaster forum is worthy of a ban?

I bet at least 50% of the members here are diggers.

It's a shame they think posting links on other sites asking people to look at a digg is spamming. If I knew they thought of it as spamming I never would have asked for people to look at it on DP. On average, I only ever got 2 - 3 people who actually dugg anything I posted here. No way that will sway any results...

    Kinda sucks, but oh well.

They are about to make an api so you can put a digg button on your own site. And they allow "digg this post" links on loads of blogs. Whats the difference?

They have hated DP for months.

Exactly, I agree that the people "trading" diggs were manipulating the system (SarahK was very vocal about that) but how is asking someone to check out your digg, spamming

They were happy enough to use DP and other forums until they didn't need them anymore then they try to bring the hammer down and take a holier then thou attitude.

Digg users were progressively getting more and more stingy anyway. Player Hatas

Well personally I hate to see people asking to be dugg. I only dig stories that are of interest to me and that I feel are worth being on the front page.

The attitude of the digg users in the comments is the one of the main reasons why it will never hit the mainstream. The average surfer wants news from a trusted source not the views of some kid.

The other reason it won't hit the mainstream is because most people don't care what other users think. People want the bbc or somebody similar to tell them the news rather than rely on the power of crowds. Look how the new netscape has flopped.

But that site was founded on notification...They are acknowledging that by giving you tools to ask people to Digg your submission...lol

Anyway, In the thread in question, I only dugg stories that interested me (and if you look at the diggers, that was the case with 99% of people)

Also: a lot of us have substantial traffic on the sites we promote. We do include "digg this" on our sites as well helping promote digg.

These services will win no matter what you say about them.

It doesn't matter what they are saying as long as they are talking about you applies in this situation.

Keep talking about them, nice work, they get free publicity from people that they won't let playin their sandbox.

    Genious marketing! Use the flunkies!

I agree with you 100%. What people are looking for is good reliable news not some crap blog talking about news they red somewhere.

But there is a big difference between motivating people to digg your story to creating clans of “spam” members that digg stories that have little or no quality just to get more traffic to their sites.

I think digg still has a long way to go before they can be considered a reliable and meaningful source of information.

    No No
Sorry i didn't say you spammers.
I said what DIGG thought about you otherwise there is no reason.

    And about DIGG RING.
I think there is already digg ring on DIGG. :)
If these kind of rings are used to promote useful and up to merit contents then what's the problem ???

I think problem with digg rings are that they don't check content quality. They just "owe diggs".If you will digg me then i will digg you.And that is what digg doesn't need.

    **You are not spammers. :)
But give digg and get digg is not good at all for anyone.

And its that ring that felt threatened by average people getting lots of Diggs for interesting stuff. There is a definate inner circle over there and now we know what they do when they feel threatened.

I think inner circle is way more responsible than potential outer digg rings.
Because they (inner) care about their priorities.
And outer rings did/do/would not care about these things. They just mean to get and give duggs.
