Dip In Traffic Due To Holiday Season?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by wiseone, Dec 21, 2004.

    Greetings,
Is anyone elese noticing a dip in traffic due to the holiday season? Traffic on our site is very much down. I am not sure if it is one of the below reasons:

    - Google has lowered our site in the rankings...
    - Schools are out for the holidays and there are less people searching for information...
    - Most people are spending their time shopping versus time on the internet.

    Any thoughts.

Should I just wait for January to see if it picks back up?

    Thanks.

That's quite a useless questions to ask without specifying the theme of your sites.

Retail sites are UP big time across the board. Leisure sites probably down a lot.

This looks most probably the reason. There was a recent update whereby there were major changes throughout for SE ranking. You can do a quick check to confirm your ranking for the various keywords. I suggest to wait it out for a couple of weeks to see whether it stablises.

Normally, I notice quite a dip for my sites during the holidays, but this year my stats are all skewed due to increased traffic for other reasons... A 'crack' of my software got out there(it doesn't even work), so pirates are downloading my software like crazy, so it's hard to differentiate legitimate traffic from non. My other site is doing well, simply because of increased SEO efforts, so it's hard to tell how much of my old traffic I'm losing, as I'm gaining new traffic, so maybe it'll really burst right after the holidays... ;)

As someone said I believe traffic depends on nature of the sites. My sister's site has curriculum materials for teachers. Expect it to be down traffic wise until first of year, my math tutorial site geared toward students should be dead as well. Chess sites should be active since we have tournaments running.

My traffic is way down, but for a site for work at home parents, that is to be expected this time of year. Add that to what Google did to my SERPs recently, and things are pretty quiet. I hope it picks up after the new year.
