Do OSCommerce Templates Break after Updating to Latest Versions?

Discussion in 'eCommerce' started by Meph, Apr 11, 2010.

    Hey guys,

I am deciding on which shopping cart platform to go atm. Magento and Joomla seems to break the templates each core update so that would not be feasible for me.

How about OSCommerce? Do any of you face any difficulties in upgrading OSCommerce without breaking the site template or modules?

    Thanks!

I'm using Joomla and I am not getting any problem while I make any upgrade. Yes special care needs to be taken care if you done some customization work over there.

For OsCommerce, same problem will be there but OsCommerce is not releasing frequent updates regularly.

I will prefer to go for Joomla!

Joomla templates and plugins tend to break when upgrading to major release versions. And because of that, redevelopment would take time and alot of money again. If we cant do the upgrade fast enough, the older versions of Joomla would have security exploits and that could lead to the site getting hacked. Hence why I stay away from Joomla.

yes if the update is affecting the template section files, in any script your layout customization will get effected.
In oscommerce the layout is not separated with the process part, both are in same file, so theres more chance for the layout to break after an upgrade.

You can go with creloaded or Zen Cart versions.
