Ghosts were outlawed in North America in 2001. We outsourced them all to India and the Middle East. It's just more economical that way and it allows us to keep all the spooks together in a bunch.

Well, if I must be serious, I think one's personal spiritual beliefs are just that - one's own. It really doesn't matter to me what others believe or don't believe when it comes to an issue like the afterlife. What matters to me is what works for me based on my own experiences.

One thing I will say is that the longer I live the less I rule out:

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." ~ William Shakespeare, Hamlet

What people believes develop other people's beliefs for most of us. It's really hard to reach that level like you say, many people here are scared about ghosts!

i believe it's just people's imagination... when you're scared you sometimes get images that you saw one... i had an experience that i saw a ghost but when i looked at it closely it was just a reflection from a window... well that was based on my experience... it may be true or not...

Since we're on the bard - the longer I live, the more I am learning:

"Thus play I, in one person, many people,
    and none contented...
    ...But whate'er I be
Nor I, nor any man, but that man is,
With nothing shall be pleas'd, till he be eas'd
with being, nothing... ~ William Shakespeare (or the 7th Earl of Oxford, take your pick), Richard II

HAhahahah. Well, I once played both Hamlet and Richard. Reliving past glories, I guess. God, nothing worse than the onset of ...gulp...45. Tahiti is looming too close to the bone, if you know what I mean (say no more...)...

Yes. I believe in ghosts. I could tell you stories, but I'll limit to only a couple.

My dad died when I was 25. To this day, I hear him at my mothers (mostly - but I hear him
here as well.) His ankle used to crack when he walked - this is what I hear. I also smell
    his aftershave at times.

I once went to a psychic who channeled (by accident) my grandmother - the psychic took
on her features and her voice. That was wild!

When I was in high school - I came home one day, walked in the front door, went to my bedroom
and put my books down. I left the bedroom, headed for the kitchen for food, got to the
living room, and stopped dead in my tracks. In the corner by the fireplace stood a figure. A
man. He was dressed in some kind of Egyptian guard clothing, and he was very old. The colors were
red and gold, and some kind of headdress. He carried
a spear? in his right hand - it was taller than him. I looked away and looked back, he was still
there. Looked away again, looked back, he was gone. A bit freaked, I was.

The next day. Same thing after school. Nothing in the living room to be *seen*, but someone
bumped in to me - damn near knocked me over - and even said excuse me. I've come to the
conclusion that these experiences were my guardian angel.

From the freakier side of life:

Again, in high school. I was at a girlfriends house after school. We were goofing off, she was
playing the piano and I was playing her guitar. She refused to keep this guitar in her room -
she swore when she did it would wake her up playing, and it wasn't music playing, it was
loud discordant banging/twanging. It scared the hell out of her. I used to tease her about it,
I mean come on, it was an inanimate object for petes sake - and used to tell her she was hitting
the wacky tobacky just a bit much.

    Well.

Keep in mind this took place in the middle of the afternoon. Broad daylight.

We got done with the musical goofing off, and I went to put the guitar back on its hook on the wall
in her dads office. I turned to leave the room and I heard a heartbeat. It was not my heart beat.
It was thu-thump, thu-thump thu-thump and it got louder. It was a very slow, creepy sound. And I know
it wasn't my heartbeat because my heart was racing. I put my hands over my ears, the sound just got
    louder.

My girlfriend came to the door, took one look at me and thought I was gonna drop dead. Whats wrong? she
said. I said Listen. Do you hear that? The look on her face told the story. She heard it, didn't like it
and she ran. Right out the front door. She refused to go home until her dad got rid of the guitar.

    It was really freaky.

Now. You wanna hear about what I witnessed with my son when he was a toddler?

I would have thought some guy tripping on memory lane, particularly Shakespearean memories, would have been the mother of all thread killers...

    OK, you asked for it...

..."I will speak to thee...O, answer me!
Let me not burst in ignorance, but tell
...Say, why is this? Wherefore? What should we do? (Hamlet, op. cit.).

There. A high enough level of abstraction that anyone can talk on anything in answer. The mother of all entreaties to continue the thread.:p
