Do You Get These Page Trap E-Mails?

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by T0PS3O, Jul 5, 2005.

I must have received a dozen over the last couple of months. Point is, none of our sites have these traps. The previous e-mails I replied to asking the URL, browser etc. and be nice to them, trying to help. But since none ever replied I guess this is some sort of spam. Although I don't understand the motive for doing so.

Any of you get this type of abuse/spam?

Nope, I get my fair share of every conceivable spam but not had that one, I guess that didn't comfort you, if you replied to SPAM normally it bounces back to you.

Does the email address differ in each one?

I didn't keep them in an organized pile and don't fancy digging through all the e-mails.

    I'm 99% sure they're not genuine complaints.

They were probably just testing the validity of your e-mail address. You reply, they know the e-mail is checked by a human and they catorgarize your e-mail address as "hot" or "active" when they are selling their e-mail address list.

I was had a redirect and a customer wrote a really nasty letter similar to that one. He would close the browser and restart and then find us again and go back to the site. The page he was going to was no longer and the redirect that was in its place wouldn't let him click back. Of course he wasn't the smartest customer, but I was educated by him that it was happening and we fixed it right away.

Albeit admitting I got sucked into their scam, this is the most likely reason IMO. Didn't think of that.

That is one of the great things about a forum like this - it serves to warn the other members of latest spam/scam occurrences.

    Thanks for sharing.

today I received a couple of e-mail through a gmail account that were offering there products -similar product line, but things looked a bit fishy, including it was one sentence and they wanted me to reply to get more info. I hit delete, because it just didn't read right and I am assuming it was trying to harvest good e-mail addresses.

Even if you did get any spam, Gmail still has one of the best spam filters. I don't mind getting spam since it goes into its own folder. Out of sight, out of mind.

Though I do check the spam folder incase something was flagged as spam in error. Guess maybe that could cause some people some grief (shrug).

This is interesting because a client got an email yesterday saying there was an iframe in his site which linked to a japanese site and gave the source code. He panicked and I've checked the home pages of all his sites and the major templates and there's nothing there. I wonder if it was the same thing?
