Go to Wal-Mart in your local in the hunting/fishing aisle and grab the magazine (book) off the counter where the guns is at, so you can see the restrictions in your area for hunting and what you have to do as it has all of information on the magazine.

 

Opening up my eyes to new things. I will grab a book but i wish i had someone close to go out with because i know there is science behind hunting, tricks of the trade. Besides the way how the us economy is going hunting does seem like something we all might have to look into.

Take your family with you, they don't have to hunt but they can accompany you. When I go hunt I would often take my 8 years old niece to teach her the important things in survival for foods if anything happens many years later when she grows up as you never know if the earth will be great condition as it is now comparing to in future. Beside it is fun to teach the children and turn them into a passion for them so that I and she could have same passion.

If you have never hunted before, I recommend to hunt whitetail deers (which is common deers) to hunt for the first time before moving up to bigger animals such as moose, elks or bears because you would have specific rifle to take them down. For deer hunting the common caliber for rifle is .243 or a .30-06 cartridges and the bigger animals means bigger cartridges.

Good point! I have heard of hunting ducks, deers, elks and moose but bears. Do people eat Bears or this is just a sport? Sorry for asking i am really new to this information.

Ok sorry to ask this but do you have to be a US citizen to purchase a firearm? rifle, shotgun, handgun?

I'm not hunting yet but I'm about to start bow hunting soon. Well actually I'm not going to hunt right away as I probably have to practice a lot before it. I want to make sure that I'm able to hit on target every time at 40 yards. Wouldn't shoot longer than 30yds shots though...

 

Believe me I was not putting anybody in the box as I don't meant it that way, I was only leave a note that I and some of others hunt for animals for foods but not for trophy or fun like some of other people. There is a lot of people who is vegetarian protest against us hunters that hunt for foods when they have no absolutely idea that there is some of the people hunt foods to survive.

Especially some of the people in Alaska lives in the forest that does not have any money to afford any kind of foods or there are no stores nearby and is thousands of miles away so only way they can survive from hunger is hunt animals for them and their families. Ever watched a TV show called Mountain Men on History channel and Alaska Bush People on Discovery channel? Two great TV shows that live in their homemade house from trees they chopped themselves and their family rely on animals for hunger to survive and barter as well - I recommend you to watch them sometime.

When is the hunting season in your area? Here in Kentucky it's Sept to Feb for deer hunting.

40-50yrds is the best distance with a bow, because you don't want to be that close to deers (if that is what you are hunting for) because it will scare them off, that's the most challenge when it comes to hunting. No quick movement, be very silent because deer very sensitive in hearing and their sights (they see in white and black).

 

I agree with @sarahk on this point, "I have no issue with people who hunt for food but hunting for sport doesn't do it for me."
I generally prefer Veg food, so avoid doing comments, just read the reply of all the members.

 

I'm not, you don't get that many wild animals wandering around London, but my dog loves to hunt the pigeons that land on our garden lawn to snack, she hasn't caught one yet because she just runs full speed at them, but she gets mighty close!

 

Yes I am a hunter but I hunt for fish, as fishing is my favorite past time.
I also have tried moose jerky while fishing up in Canada, it was excellent.
