    1) do you tell your relatives about your ecommerce site? and why?
if yes, what happens after that? does it cause you harm or good?

    2) i ask such question coz i m considering whether i should tell my relatives and my parents' friends about my ecommerce site
p.s. the city i live in is not the country which my ecommerce site wish to target

Why shouldn't you tell them? Are you ashamed of your site?

All my family and friends know what I do. The e-commerce site I worked on for four or more years was not a site from which my friends and family would shop. It was a specialized nitch site.

I just don’t understand why you asked this question as I can’t find any reason for you not to tell your relatives about your website.
Well... may be if I had and adult site… in this case I’d think it over too ;)

The funny thing is.....when you try and tell people what you do, re ecommerce, they can't grasp what you are talking about and the more you try to explain the less they understand and at some point there eyes start glazing over :D .

I don't bother unless it's someone who knows the internet well. I think a lot of us find it to be like this which is why we visit Forums.......like minded people  .

This is the truth. My mother is a perfect example. She won't even use an atm card....

I tell everyone though. It impresses them to no end for some reason.

I'm not really clear on this either. Is there a reason you would not tell anyone about your site? Is it a porn site or something? Or do you think your family would start hitting you up for your hard earned cash? ;)

I tell people that don't even ask, heh. I'm starting to carry cards with just the URL on it. Everyone is a potential customer. Telling friends and family, who will inturn tell their friends and family, and so on, can only be a good thing.

Telling family that don't understand business is sometimes bad (bothersome) because if a project is started out of home at first & you are spending time on research & development, they want to know:
    So how much you make?
So you stopped doing this & started THAT?

I've had that happen to me with parents who don't understand that marketting for the right web ventures can be rewarding but as with any business you have to develop it & it grows.

We want to develop long lasting ventures & not just do something that's going to make a quick buck if that was the case we'd be doing adult sites...
