I've never had any problems out of FF2 with memory consumption...I can usually do the same stuff on it as I do on IE7 and still manage to keep it below 100 megs

I use both Firefox and IE. Not had any problems with either - both are good products. I have a light preference in the look of IE.

that's astounding as there are web sites daring you to see how many tabs you can open before it folds.

you must have an incredibly lucky build or something or have 0 add-ons or visit 2 sites, only 1 @ a time :p

since when can you keep IE under 100

I just have whatever addons came with FF2 if any. I can usually have about 8 or 9 tabs open before I start seeing a major performance hit. With IE, I'll have about 5 tabs open before it starts causing problems :(

I think a lot depends on the sits too. I've noticed that with FF2 (or with IE and a lesser extent Opera) if you're o YT & or Pandora.com....GAME OVER player 1. I was pulling 400MB easily and on my old crusty laptop it was a major issue.

    Ouch
I haven't had memory usage go up that high, thankfully...my current computer wouldn't be able to handle that lol

yeah, it is a well know issue with V2...I wouldn't have even touched 3 had it not been for them really addressing that.

IE is a total abortion. It's slow, clunky and it opens all kinds of API hooks into the Windows OS. Ask any C++ programmer who knows how to use SPY++ that when you check the Win API message queue all MS products, IE, Office, etc all play too many games with API hooks and callbacks.

Want to speed your PC up in a hurry? Use Firefox or Opera and for spreadsheets, etc, it's Open Office.

I use Firefox, it might be a tad slower sometimes but it is infinitely better than IE.

Why does always have to be about open source/free software? What's so charming about them? Noone recommends others, but free software. C'mon, if it's open-source do you think that makes a product better than a paid one?

Being that IE7 is also free software, that argument has no bearing to the topic. But to answer that question, Yes, an open source/freeware product can be better than it's paid counterpart.

I really don't like Internet Explorer 7. When I go to MySpace.com or YouTube.com it loves to crash - especially when I'm in the middle of something.
