Wow, you guys have so many different ideas, but I have realised that not many popular websites have flashy and colorful looks so I may just stay with gimp for a while and edit images, which will be a lot harder. But bobbz, I have tried saving as an HTML file, but it looks nothing like the template I made, there are loads of squares and it's size it like 4574597x4374937 and there is no images folder.... Oh well, I guess Ill try a bit more :(

I use extended CS3 almost every day :)
Most I use it for creating graphics for wp themes.

Fully agree. Perhaps alongside Photoshop / GIMP / Fireworks / Slicing you also learn html, ajax and, most importantly, CSS.

Lots of nice tricks out there that can probably do a lot of what you want.

You create the template in Photo Shop , then you Tranfer it to Image Ready, you slice it and then save everything in Html.

If you have the latest version of Photoshop is great but cs2 is fine.

This video cd is kind of old but to me it was the best and most effective video to make web pages. It's worth every penny. PM if you have more questions.

I personally use a mix of photoshop and illustrator and own a copy of CS2. It depends on the client really, if it's a one-time thing I stick with photoshop as I can whip a website design very quickly. But if it's a full-time gig I will use Illustrator as I find it much easier to work with vector graphics (especially when I have to update/modify graphics in the future).

I would recommend that you try and find a cheap copy of CS2, but if you can't find one than go for at least CS3 Design premium (Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, and more).

Nothing can ever even come close when it comes to phone manipulation with photoshop. Same goes with web designing from the scratch, but I love photoshop mostly for images/graphics related artworks.

CS3 is so expensive! I'm still using CS2 and I don't think I'll be switching anytime soon.

You need to learn HTML to code your designs w3school is a good place to learn it and you will need to watch tutorials on how to design but yes Adobe products like FW and PS are the best for design.

    Hey Magestry,

Here is what I would do if I was in your shoes.

Download a free 30 day trail version of photoshop,
start selling your service for template and graphic
    design.

If you concentrate on building up a portfolio of your
work and driving traffic to it then you could make
enough to buy a full copy of photoshop from your
    earnings.

    Yours,

    Laura_D

I always use photoshop cs3 for designing my websites and I use it to slice them up. Rarely used Fireworks for slicing up my websites because I prefer cs3.
