Does anyone check E-bay anymore?

Just wondering if anyone uses e-bay when they are checking for sites to buy. I remember before i found these great forums and others e-bay was the only place i looked for sites. What has been your experience?

Yeah, I check it every so often.

I go into the buying websites category, then select 'Highest Price First' as the viewing method. This way, it skips all of those "$99 Established Profitable Chemist Business" and stuff, and gets straight down to business :)

I think the ebay prices can be pretty weird sometimes though. Sites either go for stupidly high prices, or really low prices, not like on DP/SP ect where people have almost a guideline price for sites.

There seems to be so much spam within eBays website and domain sales, that it is very hard to tell what is legit or not.

Buy a site at ebay and you will be burnt...

There are many places on the net where you can get decent sites. Most of them allow public comments, so as soon as someone tries to scam he gets 5 people jumping on his thread letting eveyone know.

It seems as if you are a professional webmaster and you are not participating in forums like DP/SP/DNF then your site probably isn't worth much. I have had much better experience working with people though these forums than with ebay!

Ebay is for newbies... if you mean serious business there are good forums where the pros hang around

I don't go to ebay much these days. It has become mainstream and everyone knows about it. I prefer to stick to forums like DP where their is a community and you can judge people by the Rep points.

yea, thats pretty bad. I beleive somewhere in this forum there are some guidlines that prohibit posting affiate links. its a good rule to because when people are looking for valid info someone like you comes and throws in a comment about a "good" website when they really just want some easy affiate cash.

I still check ebay from time to time, not to buy any website but to watch "trends".

Sometimes you can get good ideas from watching what are people selling on ebay. Not just in the websites section but in other sections as well.

Before I started, I was used to look at eBay for a site but I was wondering how could people sell a site for $139 when the site was making $5000 a month. That was too weird for me :D

In July, I bought a site here (game-world) for $30 :p I rebuilt the site. Today this site is making an average of $4.50 a day ($135 a month from Adsense and Casalemedia). It receives between 400 and 500 visitors a day (35% from Yahoo).

Buying a cheap site, I think, is buying an conceptual empty shell. You fill it with content to interest visitors, create backlinks to interest search engines...

Buying an operational site, I think, is an investment with all goodies linked to it: trust, stats, financial analysis, risk evaluation... things you can't really do during a 7-day auction!

These are a couple of the other popular webmaster forums. Sitepoint (SP) and DNForums (DNF). Those two along with DP make up most of my webmaster knowledge so far. If you are willing to learn, there is a wealth of knowledge at these forums.
